Beautiful hotel in the quite city center 5 min.walking to all the city attractions, thus not in the very crowded place -- the location is perfect. We have got an upgrade to the two-floors duplex -- nice! Service is very good! Bar is open late and staff is very helpful and friendly. They were minor renovations going on but did not affect my stay. The staff were extremely polite and helpful with travel plans and directions. Even though the furniture seems a little dated, it's well-maintained and clean. Great hotel, spacious, wonderful location.

Should be 3 at least.Breakfast at 25 euros is too expensive-should not be more than 15 eurosas due to central location very many cafes are nearby. Internet did not have Flash Technoloy as at February 2009.No, it was a nice pleasure stay at this hotel. Waiting for order at restaurant was extremly long.We didn't take breakfast at the hotel because it was expensive. They could have provided an iron and an ironing board in the room.If not individually,these should have been available with the housekeeping for use by guests on demand.breakfast was expensive and we didn't try it, safe in the room didn't work, we asked them to fix it but they couldn't, air conditioning didn't work so we had to keep the window open all the time, a bit noisy in the morning. Slippers not available. No A/C? At least I couldn't find the control and opened windows to very noisy street instead. Didn't try buffet as I was warned that 50 euro per person for fair layout was outrageous. We had breakfast at the Cafe Central for two for 18 Euro. it's hard to find a serving staff in the the resturant during very late evening when we have dinner. none. The bathroom was very small - very little space for our toileteries. the breakfast was expensive, so we did not have it. Bar / Restaurant facilities were not very inviting, but staff were extremely courteous - and there's plenty nearby. no spa. Price of breakfast, staff repeatedly trying to check the contents of the free minibar every day at 8am-totally unnecessary at this time. I could understand this on the day of departure and if there was a charge.I think its 4*.

The Hotel de France was built on the Schottenring part of Vienna's Ringstrasse in 1872 by the architects Franz Fröhlich and Anton Ölzelt. One year later, in 1873, a world exhibition took place in Vienna. To radiate an international ambience, the new hotel was named "de France", which at that time was considered to be chic and elegant.

In October 1876 Ölzelt attended a concert by Anton Bruckner in Klosterneuburg Monastery and was so impressed by his music that he offered him an apartment in the Hotel de France. Bruckner gratefully accepted the offer and stayed at the hotel until the summer of 1895. During this time he composed many of his most famous works.

-Take the U4 underground line (direction Heiligenstadt) to Schottenring.
-Change to the U2 line (direction Karlsplatz) until Schottentor.

From the Western Train Station (Westbahnhof):
-Take the U3 underground line (direction Simmering).
- Change at Volkstheater to the U2 line (direction Schottenring).
- Get off at Schottentor and follow the signs to the university.

From the Southern Train Station (Südbahnhof):
-Take tram D (direction Nussdorf) to Schottenring.
