The staff was awesome. The reception staff, kitchen staff, cleaning staff, all so friendly. It was clean, and the hotel is near the station, and very close to the famous Chapel Street (Restaurants/Shopping) Very good value for money, and the room was comfortable. I would surely go to the Claremont next time I am on holidays around Melbourne. I do recommend it to students/backpakers/travellers/couples and anybody who is looking for a very 'good value for money' hotel, cheap, and (close to town).
all reviews » It is not a luxury hotel and is at the lower end of the price scale, but it is excellent for what it was. The place was kept immaculately clean and the staff were assiduous and very helpful. They were extremely good in serving breakfast, which was another bonus, and the front desk team were very friendly and accommodating. I thought this hotel superb value. It is right beside South Yarra Metro station, which has very frequent service 6 minute to and from the central part of Melbourne. Everything is clean especially the bathroom. Staff are helpful. 24 hours free flow of coffee, tea and drinking water at dinning room. Good location. Very near to the railway station and tram stop, convenient stores and restaurant s and Chapel Street, the tourist spot. The location was far enough away from the city that it wasn't busy - but close enough to walk to some of the most amazing parks and botannical gardens. The breakfasts were AWESOME, and I really enjoyed the staff and the diversity of people who stayed there. Convenient location - close to train and tram; felt safe as a solo traveller- 24 hour service & good security; great breakfast and access to microwave etc plus very pleasant dining room and lounge; friendly & helpful staff. Friendly and very accommodating staff toward myself and my husband who is disabled. Closeness to South Yarra Station, shops etc. Budget price with clean rooms and bathrooms and including breakfast. Couldn't ask for more!. All the staff I had any contact with went out of there way to be helpful especially the overnight attendant who enabled me to have breakfast on the morning I left even though it was before the start time for breakfast. The best backpacker hotel I've ever seen. Enough good ficilities and drinks are free provided. The reception aunt is very kind. Location is better than CBD and 2 minutes walk to the tram station. The Claremont is cheerful, cheap and always clean. Yes, shared facilities, but there are LOTS of bathrooms and they're well maintained. The location is very central and easy to catch public transport from. The staff are very friendly and most helpful. The twin room was nowhere near as big as it was in the photo's online but we were only sleeping in there so it didn't bother us. -Although the price in Australian terms is alright, it's still quite expensive compared to the rest of the world. But hey, what can you do.. The only hot food at breakfast was toast. However the cold selection was nice. The roller blind in our room was broken and permenantly closed. Must have been that way for a while as window was rather dirty behind it. Not a major issue as we simply left it closed for duration of our stay however natural light in the room would have been nice. Our room was close to the stairs and it was not properly isolated. Tv position on wall???. beds could be more comfortable. WiFi was free, which was great, but dropped its connection quite a lot even when sat next to the router. The breakfast was very basic. Construction works next door but no fault of the hotel. Nothing. Very little, no complaints, not so good if you cant manage stairs as there is no lift. Room was bit dark and dingy,just needed new light bulb. nothing really. lack of lift in hotel, very small rooms. Showers always full and our double had two windows leading onto the veranda. If we didn't keep the curtains closed everyone could see straight into the room. No lift to carry luggade and you have to climb up and down 2 floors is very tired. Buzzing light overhead in bedroom-very close when sleeping on the top bunk. They ran out of hair dryers, I don't doubt this is because the clients take them but perhaps there should be some wall mounted dryers in either the bathroom or the sleeping room. No lift and had to drag bags up to the 2nd floor which was four flights of stairs. Hobs and oven not working in the kitchen. The whole place was noisy with guests coming and going through the night and the bathroom wasn't clean after the other guests has used it. Nothing - all good. The bed was a little bit stiff and the pillows a little thin. The metal bunk bed meant you had to be very still so as not to disturb the other person.
