the staff were very friendly and ALWAYS said aloha every time they passed. The pool and gym were wonderful and we used them every day. I liked having the Kings and Queens market close by as we had a choice of eating establishments. the beach was protected and great for water sports. Down the beach was the Lava Lava Bar - we ate their quite a few times and had drinks at sunset. Thanks to John and NIck there for a wonderful part of our stay.
all reviews » The beach was very nice. Our room would have been perfect if we'd had a full ocean view instead of a partial because of a tree. The gym is nice and clean. The concierge was helpful but be warned, it is run by Expedia so no Kama'aina rates. The nearby markets were convenient and a good option if you don't want to eat at the hotel. Several good restaurants as well as a food court are available. Proximity to shopping and restaurants was good. Swimming pools, fish ponds and beach were all very nice. The shallow sand-bottom pool for kids is an excellent idea and the slide for older kids seemed to be enjoyed as well. Room was very spacious and clean. Nice landscaping and historical information. Beach was ok but not spectacular. Staff was very pleasant and the valet staff was exceptional. The location, proximity to shopping/restaurants, the beach, and the pool area. Nothing outstanding. It is close to restaurants. We liked that its beach front. They have 3 pools to choose from. Location. The beds are very comfortable. Also the cocktail bar. There could have been a few more umbrellas around the pool - it was hard to get a bit of shade - but that's all really. This was not quite the romantic getaway that I had envisionned. I got a confirmation email from their marketing department asking if I had any comments. I wrote back saying that it was our anniversary. It would have been nice to get at least a note from them acknowledging this special event and that we chose to spend at their hotel. Bed was maybe a bit soft. The bill for the room adds up quickly with the room rate, resort fee, taxes, and pricey eats. Room was too small. Air conditioning did not cool room. Resort fee, parking fee, and lack of wifi in rooms. I booked it through the internet wen I should of called it in or booked it through the hotel it self to get a Kamaaina rate. Not enough shade around pool. bathrooms, overall room size, rooms need updating. We had booked a mountain view and got a 2nd floor room facing other rooms and a walkway. The promised flat screen tv was an old box tv. The room was musty and sorely in need of rehab. The buffet was expensive and tasteless. Maybe we got a leftover since we checked in at 6pm. What we got to see was tired and in need of renovation. Of course, there was a "resort fee" a parking charge added. This is a poor value for high end charges. Service lacks attention to detail. Far from downtown Kona. Lack of restaurant options. Parking / wifi / facilities have daily fees. Breakfast buffet was overpriced and poor quality. $25 "activity" fee was an additional charge for basic amenities - just parking and wifi! Rip-off. Hotel is worn. The ocean are so far and whe have a building between us and the ocean. The term "ocean front" was used only to steal our money.
