Central location made it very visitor convenient. The recommendations in the book were very helpful. Comfort was a first priority and very welcome. It was very cold during the time we were there and the room(s) were cozy to come back to after a walking tour of the area. Parking was very convenient. The room and the whole place was gorgeous and very clean. The staff was so friendly. The continental breakfast in the morning was quite a spread, with plenty of fresh fruit, bagels, muffins, juice, cereal, etc etc. The place was seconds from all the shopping and restaurants. Very pleased!.
all reviews » The whole experience was excellent. We were displaced from our apartment due to a water break and the Inn was "our port in the storm" taking excellent care of us. The staff are very caring and professional people. I highly recommend the Inn to everyone!. We liked the room - 109E. We love Newburyport and the Essex Inn is where we always stay because of the convenience to town. Breakfast is adequate and the sign telling us to take fruit for the road is a nice touch. Helpful desk clerk , friendly and efficient . Very close to a selection of restaurants and shopping in a quaint , trendy downtown. Clean and comfortable period style. Large room with two bathrooms and separate living area!!! Excellent location short drive to plum island and short walk to town. The room was clean and the Inn was right in the downtown area within walking distance to shopping anddone restaurants. I enjoyed the location of the inn to the center of Newburyport. The location right in the heart of Newburyport cannot be beat. And the setup of the hotel with three separate historic buildings is a delightful idea. They look great from the street. Our bed was a little uncomfortable and I had trouble sleeping. Didn't like the locks on the room. Sticky. 2 nd trip all good. The room was very small. Rhe bed waa not veey comfortable. There was alot of noise from outside and other rooms. We could hear the people talking on the next room. We felt there wasn't very much privacy. The bed in the nicest suite in the Inn was uncomfortable and had a big valley in the middle of the mattress. One of our friends also slipped on the wet stairs at the front of the inn and the young man on the desk demonstrated concern, but there was no follow-up by the management. We and many guests were unable to operate their TV. Two persons but only one chair. Two suitcases but only one stand. AC on continuously so constant noise and draft. None. Nothing. Parking on-site but very tight if you have a full-size truck or SUV. staff were not friendly; bed was not comfortable. Not enough hot water Sunday morning. Could have had more selection for breakfast. Despite written directions about how to maneuver the controls of the tv, I found it confusing. Many guests, I believe, are senior citizens; I am eighty. Why not a minimal guide of directions: Step One Step Two Step Three for simple selection of nbc,cbs,cnn etc. There are just too many buttons to press wrong choices and make it inoperable. The bed was creaky and lumpy. The breakfast was pretty dire--nothing tasty. Overall, it was overpriced. For the price paid, $217 per night in late October, the fixtures, fittings and furnishings were of a poor quality. The breakfast was depressing, both the quality of the food and the small room it was served in. The plastic cutlery said it all. The room was very small and the "queen" bed seemed more like a full. The dish network did not seem to be working correctly so the television did not really work and the wifi was spotty. All that was very frustrating. Lastly, there really is not enough room in the area the put out the breakfast so it is very uncomfortable, we felt bombarded by other guests, and overall dissatisfied. Overall the place was a disappointment.
