The location was close enough to shops and restaurants, and a long walk or quick bus ride into downtown. It was clean and comfortable and although the hosts/employees were on the shy and quiet side, they did a great job and were friendly. Breakfast was great and we enjoyed our stay just fine. The location was very good for the city not far from bus stop, excellent bus service to city and back and variety of shops. Staff were friendly and polite and spoke good English. Beds were nice and clean. Overall a good place to stay for an event at the theatre.
all reviews » great value for money B&B within walking distance (20mins) to Oxford centre. Though basic, our twin room was clean and well presented. Car park at rear and the owner even let us keep our cehicle there until 5pm after we checked out at 9!!. It's very convenient for Oxford University adult education courses at Ewert House and, whilst much cheaper than the accommodation they offer, very comfortable. I liked the setting and surroundings on the edge of shops and also it was a 5 minute journey to the main town centre. The location was perfectly suited for a course I was attending in Summertown. The room was very clean. Good sized room , ensuite shower fine with plenty of hot water. Good choice at breakfast. Staff were friendly . Service was good Happy atmosphere. staff were very nice and breakfast was great. Great location and clean and friendly. They gave me a parking token. Good WiFi which was free. friendly efficient. The dinning room. family room had proper sized singles for our grown up kids well set out (although not a large room we could move around) staff very helpful (although quite difficult to communicate with at times) Good cooked breakfast. Good selection of restaurants very close (and selection of good quality charity shops for last minute purchase of wedding suit for my son!!!). It is an average guesthouse,with a bath in need of exchange,but even so the stay was memorable as the young manager was extremely friendly and helpful far beyond what we could expect.Room,shower and breakfast quite ok. Location is good with shops and with buses to Oxford centre close by. The breakfast was the finest in the Western hemisphere. Lovingly crafted 'oeuf pâle en cercle', 'saucisse humide' and 'plat micro-onde'. All washed down with four cartons of juice. Tea & coffee making facilities, and unlimited free showers. The breakfast provided was excellent and the staff friendly. They also were helpful with regards to parking, allowing us to park for a few hours after we checked out, Whcih was greatly appreciated. Very handy for buses to the city, and good shops and restaurants in walking distance. Location is very good for me with business and private purposes. It had a little more youth hostel feel to it than a family guest house, but that makes sense since it's in Oxford and there were a lot of students around. Not anything that turned us off, just a note. My wife found the bed uncomfortable but she's quite fussy. The rooms could be cleaned better but again my wife is very fussy about all the floor being cleaned. I had a pushchair. There was no place to store it plus i had to carry my child to the top of the 3 storey stairs. Flushing the toilet resulted in a bizarrely noisy (but very brief) sound - something electric going on. Breakfast was quite basic. The room was a little cold. Some furniture was shabby though the bed was good. Garden untidy. nothing. washroom is small. Bathroom is very small. The locations a little bit far away from the city centre, but traffic is very smooth. shower temperamental. macerator very noisy and meant we were disturbed by next-door neighbour using the WC at night. Coffee awful. Nothing. Didn't feel there were enough bells. I was a little disappointed with the age and the decor however this did not create a problem as the beds were comfortable and the guest house was very clean and tidy. Despite answering their "special requirments form", it was ignored. Foreign Staff running it good, but poor knowledge of English, so very little communication. No smoke alarm in room. Toilet seat very loose. Lights not working in room. Bed hard against the wall. Towels very "hard". Weak shower. very small rooms. Nothing really. Water heater is not functioning well. poor water pressure, not terribly clean dusty, cold heater in room. The whole place needs a coat of paint and new carpet.Peeling wall paper and general dirt around pipes etc near the floor. The woman on site was not very welcoming and didn't smile. the room was a little cold and the decoration was dated, but other than that it was perfectly fine. Small room. No hot water for showers or cleaning. Does need some work on the inside ,carpets,painting inside and out,outside not very clean like other guest houses in the same row. The room we get was rather small. There are bed bugs!. being served by someone in a dressing gown. breakfast was very small and cold. Noise of guests at next door room trying to get into our room at 4.00 am. Misleading information about parking. No hot water for a shower on my second day. Room quality, heating temperature on 1st day (they did lend us a heater and it was fine after that). Tiny inconvenient and poorly plumbed shower/toilet. Disinterested staff; difficult to get them to come to door when we arrived. Poor understanding of English. Dubious decor with patchy carpets. Bizarre breakfast with full english slapped down in front of you without any choice of content (eg fried or scrambled eggs). Overpriced and a long way out of Oxford city. No parking. Definitely not 15 min walk from city centre. Terrible bathroom and shower. Staff attitude ("I don't have time to help guests") cleanliness (the railings are sticky, the spider webs dusty). It is pretty far from the city centre, takes at least 30 minutes to walk to downtown. If you don't mind walking or taking the bus, then it's fine. Also my room was in the attic, with the only small window at the top as covered with something. Mouldy windows, dust on tv stand and near on all surfaces. Inadequate lightning in bathroom. Furniture in bad state, most cupboards were broken. Found half eaten cookie under the bed. Generally the place needs a very good clean, redecorating and new furniture. This guest house was very very dirty. My single room was so small that as I lay in bed I could almost touch the walls either side. The bathroom had clearly not been cleaned for many months and I did not dare move the bed to look by the wall. There are cracks and mould around the skylight which was the only window. I had to stay as oxford was fully booked out. They wanted us to pay a 4 per cent surcharge for paying by credit charge. This was not advertised by you. They are not a 15 min walk from the centre more like 35 mins. Very, very noisy lavatories. The whole place was in desperate need of redecoration. Our room was not clean, in particular the bathroom had mould on the wall, and there were cobwebs on the walls and ceilings. The staff were not friendly. The "English breakfast" was poor, was partly undercooked, greasy, and tasted of chinese takeaway. Old,shabby and a poor conversion into a guest house. It was dirty. Disorganised. The bedrooms we were shown were totally bare and void of wardrobes and cupboards. It was the most depressing hotel I could imagine .
