The Dene Guest House was the perfect choice. Not only I was provided with a clean, spacious and beautifully designed en-suite bedroom with great views but I had as well the valuable help of Ilio and Hamish in every possible aspect (from giving advice on how to spend leisure time to pointing me in the right direction whilst I was looking for a job in the city). The owners are extremely friendly yet never intrusive or insistent. I am already planning to go back soon!.
all reviews » Perfect location, close to centre of town. Received a very warm welcome, lovely people running the bed and breakfast in a relaxed, efficient way, they couldn`t have been more helpful. My room was clean, comfortable and had all I needed, the house itself is a beautiful old Edinburgh town house. Fantastic breakfast and I look forward to staying again for my next great night out in the big Toun!. I am quite exigent, but...the room was great, and the shared bathroom has very good conditions! The better part was the staff! They made me feel at home, they were always available to give the best advice's and always concerned about your well-being. They were helpful in everything, from my late check-in to my early check-out :) I will recommend this Guest House to my friends!. The staff were really welcoming and ready to help. The breakfast was delicious and I thought our top floor room was cosy but with ample room. The location is really good if you want to see the centre of Edinburgh with a pleasant 15 min walk in and also take advantage of seeing the other areas like Stockbridge and the Botanic gardens. Simone is the nicest, sweetest host you could hope for and cared for our every need when called upon. The hotel location is excellent bang in the middle of City centre. The room is more than what I expected with a very nice warm shower and a very comfy bed for 2. All in all was perfect for the night. This house is in a very quiet place. On the way to town, there are loads of galleries and small shops. Our room is located in the basement with beautiful window view of green plants outside. Very warm tone, very spacious space. Breakfast is lovely that you can order things you want. The guest house itself was lovely - clean, well-kept, very comfortable. The common space was perfect for relaxing after a long day in the city. The owners were warm and welcoming and really made the stay a highlight of our entire trip to Scotland. Definitely recommend!. Superb welcome and service from Simone, the manager. Good location in a handsome part of Edinburgh's New Town. Excellent service, clean, great breakfast, within a walking distance of the city centre. I stayed in a twin room: big enough, nicely decorated, with high ceiling, a TV, a washbasin and enough cupboard space. Nice, quiet place to stay and enjoy the city. Superior staff and very friendly altitude, they helped us in any way possible (e.g. offered us breakfast on our very early check in, printed out our e-tickets etc.) And it was clean and WARM inside! Would certainly recommend. Simone, the manager is an awesome lady, always ready to help the guests in the best way possible. I am sure that with her never say no approach with customers, she will take Dene guest house to greater heights. This house is exquisite and classic. although we didn't live in en suite, the facility is good. The host lady is kind and helpful and offered good breakfast. The value of hotel is beyond its price. The staff were very helpful and friendly. My room was small but had everything I needed. Bathrooms were clean and the whole place was just very cosy and warm. Breakfast was excellent as well. After doing pedal for scotland 110mile sportive, staying at Dene was fabulous,Simone couldnt have benn more accommodating 5star,breakfast was great. would recommend fantastic location. There is nothing I actually disliked from this venue, apart maybe from the 15 min walk from Princess St. But that is not necessarily an inconvenience: the 18th century 'New Town' buildings and the cosy shops in the way make the stroll a veritable pleasure. Nothing. Everything was great!. Nothing really. The cooked breakfast was very nicely served but, with a little bit more effort, could have been better cooked. I would describe it as acceptable but not quite up to the standard of the rest of the experience. Lacking a homely touch, which is a pity given how good everything else is. Sound insulation is not a top notch, though it wasn't really a problem. If you walk from train station to this hotel, It's a little bit far especially with bulky luggage. The only criticism was the lack of wifi access in the room. absolutely nothing. Shower was a trickle and impossible to get temperature right. Occasional digital break-up on TV. We had a room at "Garden Level" which ist British for basement ;-) and the bath room, especially the floor, was quite cold (we stayed there at Mid June). You must be aware, that breakfast is only served between 8 and 9 am on weekdays and 9 to 10 am on weekends - this was o.k. for us, but we were a little bit troubled that we get a table since the breakfast room ist not very large. The window...the old-fashioned window needs extra room to open or close. But,anyway, it did not hurt. Nothing. The only thing I would say is that there is wifi only in the living room, and not in the rest of the building. Nothing. It was fine. I quite like a carpet or rug in the bedroom. nothing. At the price, in June, it would be unfair to say we disliked anything, but the brown bread is almost always an issue, even in the best hotels. Thin sliced that compresses to a wafer when toasted. The bacon (very small complaint!). The sun goes down late and rises very early. So do the local birds. No Parking. Ill fitting curtains. Room on the small side. Pokey shared facilities. A difficult city to navigate. Quite an uphill walk into town. Nothing at all. Location a bit of a walk from the old town (about 15-20 mins). WiFi was available only in the breakfast room. nothing. Sharing bathroom. There was a very ratterly window on my first night which kept me awake.
