I Loved everything! It's a magical place, a must visit of your life. And Maru Maru is beyond perfection! Half of the building is very old, and keeps the old century style, the other is new, but combines all different kinds of design from Arabic to Portuguese, Mediterranean and Indian. The terrace on the roof top gives you a breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean and the sunset! It's beyond description. Have to see it for yourself. Right on Gisenga Street, so all the shops with different crafts .

Restaurant, roof top excellent and calming with its view; accommodating individual needs regarding dishes.Rooms very clean and spacious. Central situated to allow movement of most of tourist attraction destinations. The restaurant is superb and the staff truly go out of their way to provide assistance. My stay is longer than I had anticipated, the staff all know my name and greet me every time they see me. It has become a home away from home. We were right in the middle of Stone Town. A friendly and nice staff all over the hotel, and a great location with a superb rooftop. The rooms at the new wing are very good, and the beds very comfortable. The hotel is very well situated, right in the middle of Stown Town. We didn't have time for a lot of sightseeing around, but for one night it was what we needed. The location from the Ferry Pier is ideal (and walkable), staff extremely friendly and helpful, cozy feeling, and the rooftop terrace is a HUGE selling point. The Maru Maru was superb. Poor network and wifi connectivity Credit card facilities not always working 5% fee on credit card transactions, the only place in Zanzibar that charged a fee and claimed it to be banking law Unchanging exchange rate, was the same for our entire stay. The food service staff at breakfast and for 1 dinner (one waiter was very good) was not good. The waitress got our order wrong and tried to guilt us in to paying for her mistake. For the price you pay you get a nice room but no pool or other amenties. The breakfast is also very limited other than fresh eggs or an omelet. Information regarding changing of codes, password for Wi fi connection daily will be helpful to guests. ... I prefer a balcony on my room... nothing really - its been a great stay. Make sure you deal all excursion tickets though the Hotel. Some of the local vendors are not so nice. Shop owners pawing at you to come into their shop. Instant coffee at breakfast. 1. It was a bit noisy, but since this is in the heart of Stone Town, perhaps I should accept it. The hotel was not able to accept payment with the Credit Card, so I had to go around the city looking for a working ATM to withdraw cash to pay: not easy. Slow wifi connection. Seating on roof bar not very comfortable. I dont understand why booking rate this hotel as 5 star, it is international rules about that - and this is not a five star hotel!!!. Check out at 11 AM, although staff was very accommodating and held our bags. Very average food quality. Room was a bit small for two adults and two kids (2 yr old twins) for a king room, was supposed to have a bath an arabian bath in the bathroom but it didnt. Few variety of Breakfast. Nothing really to dislike as it delivered what was required and advertised. The wifi was only access able close to reception but it was free. Staff at breakfast was a bit slow. roof top restaurant cannot be recommended for dinner. Food seems to be not that nice. The Internet did not work in the bedrooms. They charge 5% when paying with credit card. A little bit noisy at night. Breakfast was a bit basic - for a "5 star" hotel having instant coffee is not up to scratch. Noisy rooms. room not terrific , only on web side luxury ones.... no darkness during the nights. Food in the restaurant was poor (dinner and breakfast) - not recommended. Some rooms can get noise - either from the street at the front or top floor restaurant. half an hour at the airport waiting for the booked car transfer, a quarter of an hour at the reception waiting for the key; room with view... on a wall (no more than 1 meter): the worst view from any window of any hotel in may life; cold atmosphere at the restaurant (tough good indian food). Glass window above the entrance door of the room makes the room at night as brightly lit as during daytime. 5% surcharge if you pay with credit card, while during booking it's nowhere mentioned.
