We found our stay at cinnamon grand very good. However following our arrival at cinnamon lodge in habarana (booking made through letsbookhotel.com), we were very disappointed to see that there was no gym even though the hotel was rated as 5 star by your website. We contacted letsbookhotel.com and to our suprise we were told that we should have checked the hotel website. As we expect a 5 star hotel to naturally have a gym and we placed alot of faith in letsbookhotel.com, we feel we have been ign.
all reviews » It was a real pleasure to stay in Cinnamon Grand Colombo at the end of our holidays in Sri Lanka. What struck us first is a very warm and professional welcome. I wish I could have that in Europe. The room was not very big as you could expect from an executive room yet spacious enough. The design really nice yet simplistic which I really liked. A complimentary bottle of wine, mineral water, a bowl of fruit and chocolates were a nice surprise. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, you could choo. The Best 5* Hotel in Colombo: The Cinnamon Grand Hotel is the best 5* Hotel (irrespective the publicity of other hotels). This is the hotel where you can feel the huge lobby crowded of different people, Culinary Village with different Gourmet Restaurants and nice Swimming Pool. The rooms are nice and either Sea facing or City / Lake facing. With little upgrade to Club Room you will get access to the Lounge with personalized service and different types of food presentations. The daily activity. The service was excellent. My flight wasn't till 3am so they let me have late check out at 2pm and also offered use of the hospitality suite so that I could stay within the hotel until I needed to depart at Midnight. Staff came and offered my shampoo and conditioner to use the shower in the suite and brought chocolates and checked in to make sure I was ok. Would definitely recommend staying here if you are in Colombo. The service in this hotel is amazing. The staff are completely in tune with the guests. The hotel is very big and has ten or so places to eat that don't break the bank but are very high class and totally a treat in every mouthful. The hotel is a village in its own right and you can be there enjoying the numerous facilities without the need to stray to far out of the grounds . We have been returning customers of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel since the early 1980's! (It bore several names before). The excellent service & staff coupled with fantastic facilities, amazing selection of restaurants all contribute to making it a wonderful place to stay whilst in Colombo & somewhere to return to ..... time after time! Cannot recommend it enough!. Excellent hotel. Staff were brilliant and the Choice of restaurants & facilities is great. The place had a brilliant atmosphere and we enjoyed our few days here. Its an impressive place as soon as you walk in. Its the type of place you could spend 1 week in eat fantastic food, relax and not leave ..... Well that's the idea next time. We stayed one night only as it was fully booked. Definitely worth staying for longer period. Buffet dinner and breakfast were superb. Stunning scenery and natural grounds. Lots of wildlife to run into. Gorgeous birds. Very lush. Staff very accomodating, polite and friendly; showed personal attention and were very helpful. We enjoyed many facets of the stay at Cinnamon Grand, we dined out on two nights upon a friends recommendation. The Tao Restaurant provided great food and service, whereas the Seafood Restaurant was decidedly underwhelming due to below standard service, seating and presentation of food. W. Very tidy, professional staff, the best hotel we stayed at in Sri Lanka. After 2 weeks of tripping around Sri Lanka, this was a great last hotel to rediscover the 4+ star comforts before a long flight home. Much better value & far better service than the Galle Face Hotel. Efficient service, I arrived late due to a flight delay and also asked for a late check out, both of which were accomodated without question or isue. All personel friendly and engaging. A very comfortable bed, i was tempted to take a pillow home with me!. The staff were terrific throughout my stay. After I'd left the country, I realized I left valuables in my room safe. They were kind enough to retrieve them for me and have it arranged for them to be sent back to me in the U.S. Absolutely stellar!!. -Good pool area -Grand feeling in the hotel. Has a sophistication which you feel as the hotel seems to have been run at a very high standard for many years. -The restaurant "Chutneys" served some very good Indian food. Luxurious hotel. Staff were the best I have ever encountered. Nothing was too much trouble.We had a room on executive floor and was well worth the extra cost due to the extra benefits of the VIP lounge. Lots of restaurant choice, main atrium looked impressive. Pillow hardness choice was novel. Christmas light display was wonderful and tasteful. Good location near other big hotels and near beach. The facilities, ambience, business guest privileges,and most importantly the staff collectively ensure this world class hotel delivers the promised high quality experience. Strongly recommended. The central location of the hotel made it easy to walk to lots of areas for sightseeing. The lounge was excellent for breakfast, afternoon tea and pre - dinner drinks. This Hotel is closed to city center, they have a small shopping mall, it helpful to consumer to buy personal thing. The staff were lovely especially Tharangi and Nina. very new, very clean, tiled floors spacious bathroom with seperate shower. The food wasn't that great. I was disappointed by the poolside food and in the pub, and the seafood at the Lagoon was just ok, not great like I had been having in the rest of Sri Lanka. Room service was fine. Nothing , it was fantastic. Had a small problem with the Restaurant staff on the night over the Bill as they had over charged. Soon sorted itself once the department manager turned up and was resolved quickly but did leave a sour taste in the mouth when leaving .... which was a shame because it was over one of the nicest bottles of red I've had in a while aswell. Nothing. The Seafood Restaurant (Lobster)was decidedly underwhelming due to below standard service, seating and presentation of food. The service at the poolside bar was almost insulting - place mats thrown down, drinks unpoured, no interaction from the wait staff at all. Very unfriendly. We also didn't like the view from the room, would ask for the city facing or ocen facing room next time. We had "slum" facing views. We found nothing to dislike. - We got a 7:30 am phone call from the staff to ask if we still needed our extra bed. This call woke us all up and was very unwelcome. There was absolutely nothing that I didn't like and would recommend this hotel highly. Too many people at Buffet breakfast when hotel is full like when we were there near Christmas. Waiters got food bill wrong in cafe on a couple of occasions because too many staff in order to delivery process. Expensive after adding all the taxes, vat,xyz taxes and service charges The rooms are not sound proof....if you are unlucky then some chiller or machine/motors sound will be bugging you all the time...i had my room changed because of it. Little expensive for Sir lanka and it is a very busy hotel. After staying there for 3 nights and going away for 2 nights, I wanted to come back for our last night in Colombo, it would have been nice to get some kind of a discount for the one night. I didn't like that my Husband had to where pants to the restaurants in the evening, and I mean tje restaurants that was outside, and he was dresses casual with shoes and all, not flips flops,I also think local calls should be free. The hotel taxis didnt have the best knowledge of where they were going. It can get loud. Because it's such a happening place, service can be quite poor. I also found some common areas to be quite dirty. The attached mall is quite terrible, so I'd recommend you go elsewhere to do your shopping. Quality of Food needs to be improved add more activities to the hotel as there is no much to do outside the hotel. - Quite synthetic/ non welcoming reception once you arrive. nothing. Nothing. Beware the touts outside. Every time you walk out the front you'll get someone coming up to you in white shirt and black trousers claiming to work at the hotel, telling you about the show / procession / parade festival that's supposedly happening just up the road, before taking you to the local gem shop. Needs some refurbishment (carpets a bit worn). Business Hotel Crows (that's Sri Lanka though) Drinks are pricey. Small room. Breakfast has room for improvement. Elevator was too far from room. They should provide you with a short map of the hotel as it is big including the grounds and easy to get lost. The room had a peculiar smell while we checked in first, but was promptly changed as soon as we compalined. More north Indian food options required. The wifi system which was impossible to operate (in contrast to simpler guest houses in Kandy and Nuwara Eliya). Staff a bit too formal for our tastes, sir/madam all the time etc A bit expensive really, but the restaurant prices are really good. Spa in USD and high price, was being refurbished when we went. Possibly a little overpriced. Poor wi fi connectivity in rooms and public areas although provided free. The smoky smell that goes right through the hotel - from the lifts to the rooms. I am a non-smoker and coudl smell it everywhere. Such a shame. Too crowded. Nothing. - The noise from outside the bedroom was minus due the open plan arrangement of the rooms around a central courtyard. - Overpriced! We paid €345 for a two night stay with breakfast for two. Big rush in the Lobby. Nothing. Stay was too short. No proper communication among staff. We ordered for an additional bed and then cancelled it. But the charges for the aditional bed was included in the final bill. Nobody said atleast sorry for their mistake. The person at the luggage counter was asking us whether we have settled the bill.The way he asked us was not pleasant.we did not feel like that we stayed in a five star hotel. The shower need to be renewed.
