We couldn't have asked for a better stay while in Stellenbosch. The rooms were spacious, clean, and had beautiful views of the vinyards and the Stellenbosch montains. Sometimes in the morning a light mist would roll over the mountains-- a view that's hard to beat. The hotel staff was AMAZING. They came to clean the room in the morning and did a wonderful turn down service in the evening (you get a delicious caramel!). I also lost my phone on a bus to a safari. all reviews » I could not have picked a better hotel in which to celebrate my husband's 30th birthday. Although I made my booking the night before our arrival, the staff at Asara went above and beyond to make our stay special, even having a delicious cake and champagne ready in our room much to my husband's delight (and I didn't even request this!). Breakfast the next morning was perfect and the setting in which we found ourselves helped us relax and enjoy our little escape to its fullest. The best bit about this hotel was that the staff at this hotel were all second to none, very well trained. The hotel was set in an amazing location with mountain views, and the rooms were spacious and well designed (feel of an old French vineyard, but modern well done rooms). The food in the restaurant was also very good, and served to an extremely high standard. Very close to Stellenbosch too... After touring the Western Cape - We booked Asara for our last night in South Africa and what a great surprise- The staff where friendly and helpful -beautiful large rooms and a view over the pond and wineyard.... We arrived quite late and they kept the kitchen open for us to have dinner. We left with quite a few bottles of splendid wine in the suitcase and wonderful memories. Thank you. From the moment we arrived, to when we left, all the staff we're very friendly and welcoming and professional... Breakfast was a real feast!. The first impression was fantastic, the guy who took us to our room was friendly and took us on a mini tour before dropping us at our room. The hotel is located in a beautiful landscape, among vineyards, olive trees and a lake, between the mountains... the room is extremely comfortable. There is a bistro and restuarant one can go to, so saves the trip into Stellenbosch. Of course a lovely wine tasting opportunity as well. The breakfast quality was not as good as the other hotels that we stayed in on our South African trip. The service was too mechanical and there was no personal touch. What let's this hotel down is the lack of cohesive service in the restaurant, it's all a bit rushed, they don't seem to communicate with each other and we got the impression that they weren't happy. Very few smiles across the whole of the estate which is sad as this place could be "really" good. Bit close to Stellenbosch, one does hear the traffic from the city at rush hour. No gym. WiFi patchy (avoid 201) and slow, but acceptable for email. No negatives. Nothing. The room on the second night was a little far from the car park but nothing serious!. Although, we bought two bottles of wine they charged us for tasting. For the price you better have a full glass at their restaurant. The wine was pretty good though as was the rest of the hotel. Nothing. No gym. Limitd TV channels - no tablecloths on tables in diningroom. The room work station is extremely uncomfortable because the table is too low... The bar/lounge area staff tend to not be attentive to hotel guests. The two rooms were to be paid separately and although they charged the couple I was travelling with for their room, they also charge me for their room and mine. At an establishment like this this type of thing should not happen. Restaurant very pricey. The group of people talking very loudly around the pool area. It is a small intimate area in a superb setting but this group shouted at each other across the pool rather than move closer and speak quietly . I felt very sorry for the younger couples wanting to enjoy the romance. Not the hotels fault , but could possibly ask in signs/literature for respect the peaceful surroundings . Luckily the same group chose to eat out and we didn't have to endure the loud shouting . Restaurant closed early. Do not get the courtyard room because the view is ugly. Next time I would pay more for a better view. Nothing. I ate something that made me sick, I think it was my dinner. nothing.... that customers from the hotel need to pay yhe wine-tasting, in the winter restaurant and rooms to cold, no indoor swimming pool for a 5 star hotel. The receptionist wasnt the friendliest. A seperate spa would have been great.

The hotel opened its doors on the 1st of May 2008 and its name, Asara, derives from the names of the African gods of Earth, Sun and Sky.
Just over the hills outside Stellenbosch, and established in 1691, the farm’s history dates back to the earliest days of winemaking in the Cape.
The hotel’s Grand Ballroom is the ideal hosting venue, under the supervision of the hotel’s team of experienced event organisers.
Various events take place on the estate, including food and wine pairing evenings, wine lectures and sundowners overlooking the dam.

Important information to guests

The charges below are not included in the overall room rate. Guests will be charged separately at hotel reception. The mandatory Christmas lunch on 25 December costs ZAR 950 per person. The mandatory New Year's Eve dinner on 31 December costs ZAR 1250 per person. Please note, mise en place restaurant is only open from 18 October 2017 until 31 March 2018 from Tuesdays to Saturdays and reservations are essential. Guests are required to show a photo identification and credit card upon check-in. Please note that all Special Requests are subject to availability and additional charges may apply. Travelling information

By car: Arriving from the airport / N2 * Travel along the N2 from Cape Town to Stellenbosch. * Take exit 33 (Baden Powell & Stellenbosch) on the left. * Shortly after taking this turn off you will reach a Stop sign – turn left onto the R 310 here. * Travel along this road (you will pass Vlaeberg Road on your left and Annandale Road and Spier on your right) until you come to a T-junction. * Turn right towards Stellenbosch (still on the R 310). * Shortly hereafter, you will find the gates to Asara Wine Estate on your left hand side. Arriving from the N1 * Travel along the N1 from Cape Town to Paarl, take exit 39 on the left. * Shortly after taking this turn off you will reach a Stop sign - turn right onto the R 304 here. * Travel along this road, past Kyamandi and into Stellenbosch, until you reach a set of traffic lights and a sign on the left that reads: Strand (R44) and Kuilsrivier (R310) with an arrow to the right. * Turn right at this set of Traffic Lights onto Adam Tas Road (Volkswagen dealer on the right and Seven Eleven and Eikestad Motors on the left). * Continue along that road for 1.4 km and you will find a sign that reads: Kuilsrivier and Kaapstad R310. * Turn right at this sign and continue along this road for 4km. The gates to Asara Wine Estate will be on you right hand side.
