The location could not be better. We did not take advantage of the breakfast ,which is across the street at the Burgundy restaurant,as we had plans with friends in town, but we did eat there for dinner and it was great. We were upgraded to a beautiful room with an ocean view from the balcony, so great. Wish we were there in summer, you can tell the town will come alive then , in winter it was charming, quiet and cozy with fireplaces and sherry to drink in the lobby before dinner.You don't inter.
all reviews » The Auberge was really lovely, the rooms were clean and cofortable with wonderful views - the situation perfect, right on the front, the staff friendly and helpful and the restaurant across the road was perfect, so cosy with friendly, efficient staff and excellent tasty food. unfortunately it rained whilst we were there but it didn't dampen our spirits, we had a great time and to crown it all, there was a real log fire in the lounge, with a free glass of port before bed - lovely!!. The staff were more than helpful. The character of the hotel was lovely with the shutters on the windows. The garden area around the rooms was pretty with little seating areas.. The bedrooms were large and spacious. Beds very comfy. Shower was large with great pressure. Breakfast at the Burgundy restaurant was exceptional. All in all it was a lovely 2 night break and will definitely stay there again. Highly recomend it. Had a great stay and will be back for more. Great staff & very helpfull. Close to everything and you do not have to drive at all. We were picked up for a wine tour close by and could enjoy the trip without any worries. Great wine & food weekend, next to the sea. Perfect for us! Art festival was also on, so all our senses were stimulated. :-). Our second stay here. The suites in the main building have great views over the bay so you can spot whales from your room. Centrally placed for shops, restaurants etc. Off road parking. Helpful staff. Good tea/coffee making facilities in rooms, and filled daily. Free wi-fi. We had poolide suite, slightly old fashioned (in a good sense) was beautiful, large bedroom, separate dressing room, large sitting area and a very practical kitchen area. Our room Had a view of sea. Staff very helpful. Hard to get space like this in Hermanus. The hotel is very centrally located, close to the old harbour ... great breakfast at the Burgundy Restaurant next door ... generous bedroom, lounge and kitchenette ... also has a balcony with sea views and a tiny fireplace for warmth and ambience ... Room 17. Charming is a word that's overused, but it's truly appropriate in this case. Old building redone beautifully, in the middle of town, overlooking ocean. It was a bit chilly one evening, and the guard built us a lovely fire. Charming, indeed!. We liked the very close and prompt attention shown by the Front Desk. A very friendly atmosphere and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. A glass of sherry and/or port of an evening was also very welcome. Hopefully we shall return. Beautiful hotel in a great location. Very nice and spacious rooms, unfortunately ours was facing the street which gets a bit noisy early in the morning. Apart from that it was a memorable stay in Hermanus. Absolutely fantastic! We loved the italian style, the reception area, the little patio with its fountain just below our room. Very well located in the old harbour. Well done!. On arrival we immediately felt welcome. Staff friendly and smiling. We were upgraded to a lovely sea-facing suite. Really enjoyed our stay. Location is wonderful and we liked the character of the guest house, made us feel like we were in France. Breakfast was lovely at both restaurants. Fireplace, views of sea, great restaurant partnership, views from restaurant, nice lounge area with newspapers, wonderful ambience. A great location in a wonderful town - and the whales did not let us down! From my bedroom I could watch them in the bay. Friendly and helpful. only had to check out at 11h00 which is great! Due to the gale force winds we had a very disturbed nights sleep due to the fact that there was something rolling and crashing around on the roof! Chairs blew over so lots of noise! Take earplugs!. The plastic blinds on the main bedroom balcony doors. The shower not working ! If anyone else used water the shower went off completely! Having to go to another location for breakfast. Noise from nightclub. Pool pump noise became irritating. Lack of tv programmes - understand system went down weekend I was there. Would have loved a bath.

Travelling information

By Car:
From Cape Town:
- Take the N2 Highway north.
- As you come over the Houw Hoek Pass, take exit 90 for the R43 Kleinmond/Hermanus.
- Turn off to your left.
- Carry on straight until you reach the town of Hermanus.
- You will pass Gateway Spar on your right; carry on straight into the village.
- When you enter the centre of town, turn right into Park Lane (at the Shell garage and Friendly 7/11 - supermarket).
- Turn left at the stop sign into Marine Drive.
- Follow the road as it curves round the coast - approximately half a kilometre.
- Turn left into Harbour Road.
- The three storey Provençal-style building is unmistakable.

From the Garden Route:
- Take the N2 south.
- 10km after Riviersonderend, which leads to Stanford (Rietpoel), turn left onto the R326.
- At Stanford, turn right towards Hermanus on the R43.
- On reaching the centre of town, turn left at the Wimpy Bar into Market Street.
- Then turn right into Marine Drive.
- Follow the coast road past the Old Harbour.
- Turn right into Harbour Road.
- The guesthouse is the 3 storey Provençal-style building, at No. 16.
