The breakfast was perfect , the staff was so helpful and friendly and the location is excellent ... not far from the train station (12 minutes walking or less) and less than 5 minutes from the Kremlin , a good restaurant was near to it as well as the tourist information center.... The Volkhov Hotel is a lovely old hotel in a great location, close to all the local attractions, and with friendly, helpful English-speaking staff. The restaurant and bar serve a very nice menu; all the ingredients were fresh and of a high quality.
all reviews » Veliky Novgorod is not to be missed, and the Volkhov Hotel is the obvious place to stay. The staff was very helpful and friendly(especially Alexsandra). Check out the amusing Museum of Left Objects. And it's very near the Café le Chocolat. My single room was small but clean and comfortable. The staff at reception were helpful and could speak enough Emglish to answer all the questions I had. The food and service in the restaurant were very good. I would certainly return. Staff were friendly and helpful; we arrived on an early train and were allowed an early checkin for no additional charge. The location was central to most things you need or want to see in Novgorod. Close to the sightseeing. The carpet was not so clean...it could be better,the room was on the street and the car noise was uncomfortable. The furnishings are a bit dated, which is not such a big deal. The carpeting in the guest room where I stayed was really nasty however. There is no air conditioning. During my stay in July, it was quite hot during the afternoon and evening hours. The likes far outweighed the didn't-likes. The noise from cars at night, though it didn't bother us that much. But you definitely should consider this while booking the room, preferably with the windows to the back yard. Otherwise I would recommend this hotel. Nothing. We have a problem with VISA, but Master Card is working. Too expensive to do laundry. Smoking in the restaurant and bar. Water fall on floor in bathroom. Furniture, example sofa, is bad. 设备稍显简陋，房间小。. The hotel is old and certainly needs modernization and better maintenance regarding style and facilities. The price for a suite is far too high for offered average standards; e.g. the shower hose was leaking; the bed wasn't as 'large' or comfortable as advertised; the old TV set was outdated and did not provide any international news channels, etc. The main disappointment is that real room facilities varied greatly from described on the hotel official site. The bathroom stunk, the beds made a lot of noise when your turn .
