The Princes Gate is a historical, boutique-style hotel in the centre of Rotorua. This classical 4.5-star hotel is opposite the Polynesian Spa and the famous Government Gardens. The hotel has 50 stylish guestrooms and apartments, all decorated in a traditional and classical style. Each room is beautifully furnished with luxurious en suite bathroom and a range of personal toiletries. The larger apartments offer a living area and kitchen facilities. The Princes Gate Hotel, dates back to 1897 and is situated in the historical area of the city. The hotel is only 100-metres from the lakefront and city centre and is also within easy reach of the Convention Centre. Property offers three thermally heated pools, a private plunge pool and sauna. Guest laundry facilities are available. There are a restaurant and bar on-site offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are also live cabaret dinner shows.

A historic hotel so a great place to stay and good value.... great room and style if like us that's what you go for. But.... within the sulphur smell zone - as are most places in Rotorua. Good value for money - restaurant dinner was quality! You pay for what you get but.....All round a great choice for us. as always, we had a great stay in the beautiful Prince's Gate. I had made a mistake with our online booking, but the lovely lady on the desk sorted us out with no bother. Behind us was quite a grumpy customer demanding an upgrade, but the desk lady sorted everything out with no fuss. Glenis, Gyynis??.
all reviews » Our room was lovely, nice and comfortable, Some of the staff especially one who was waiting tables, welcomed us when we arrived because the duty manager was seeing someone to their room, and was generally doing everything, well he needs a raise. I like the excellent service, the friendly staff and the wonderful decor. It was also a surpise to find out that there was a caberet dinner the night we stayed and that was a real treat. friendly helpful staff, comfortable unit beds comfy as central to town & government gardens all amenities close, nice decor in the units really pleasant colours. Fabulous old hotel well located in the city and walking distance to Polynesian Baths, shops and terrific restaurants. Beautiful lounge area for drinks or groups. Loved the atmosphere of the hotel, the decor was beautiful, staff were helpful, great location, nice to see and speak to owners about hotel and rotorua. The fact that you could sit our on the balcony and have a pre dinner and after dinner drink, right outside your room. Made for a very social night. The staff were welcoming & friendly, the room was well appointed & clean, & the short walk to restaurants, bars & shops a bonus. We had a room in the new section with a lounge and kitchen which was excellent. Close to Polynesian spa and friendly staff were very helpful. Convenience to centre of town, thermal pool, friendly helpful staff comfortable bed. Lovely old balcony with whicker chairs. The hotel is perfectly located for tourists traveling by bus. It has lovely geothermally-heated pools and lovely retr-decor,. everything,the staff are lovely,and because we stay quite often,we are regularly upgraded to even extra luxury, thank you. So friendly and helpful close to city centre just a short walk to all didn't need to use the car. A special hotel . Loved the old fashioned ambience and room off the verandah. Nothing, all good. The Duty Manager on arrival he was seeing someone to their room. He was not welcoming, in fact he was downright pompous. No please or thank you and he didn't see us to our room wonder why. Maybe because we were Kiwi's!!!. Nothing it was exactly what I had expected. no ventilation in the bathroom got quite steminng also toilet area would benefit as unit was small but lovely stay. The beds! We travelled with a group and all couples complained of the impossibly springy beds in the hotel. We reckon that the management should sleep there for a night to test them. Also there is no ventilation in the rooms and we had to sleep with the door wide open to the balcony because of the heat. Wifi needs addressing with its impossibly tricky codes. No other access to the pool except to walk through the restaurant. That was the way I was shown and couldn't see another way. Nothing. I didn't like not being able to open the windows at night. As a result our room was a bit stuffy. Nothing. The young man at reception was rather aloof and seemed disinterested in making us feel welcome. However he improved a little over time. the last night was ruined as next doori ntheir conference centre was a band so loud we were unable to talk in our room or watch any TV and sleep was difiicult not $300/night experience at all. Dining areas too formal. Full length mirror would be handy in bedroom. The shower was terrible just no pressure . Room heater was very hot but once we found how to turn it off we were ok. Supposed to have a show on, I didn't realise was numbers based. Shower over bath, for elderly easy to slip getting out. Shower presure left a lot to be desired . Charged for Internet and not told it was an added expense. Internet access was terrible - had to go to the lobby to use, and even then it was spotty. Too many tempting goodies in the fridge!!!!. There was dried urine on the toilet seat when I arrived. Sells itself as 5*. It isnt. Lots missing to make it 5* - in room safe, air con, drawers in bedroom, etc. Had it been rated 4* I would have given better reviews but it just isnt 5* standard. Decor inside newer part very underwhelming - like a standard motel room. Saggy beds. No kingsize bed, toilet flush dodgy, room keys interchangeable (another guest unlocked our door at one point). other guests who are staying in the terrace are noisy. they were talking & laughing loudly ... they disturbed our sleep !! i would not like to stay another night on this hotel. The first room that you showed was not an option it was very dark and stuffy. The second considering the price there was no air conditioner which was surprising. Been there before the new management and I find it more friendly and better service. I felt that some of the staff in the bar could do with some hospitality training. I was not impressed. dirty spa pools area, in need of renovation. Poor standard of cleanliness, e.g. dead insects at window; live ants at window; hairs in bathroom, etc. Shower was so bad it shouldn't have been included in room description. Also, basin plug didn't fit. No mini-bar price list available in room. Told not to have windows open with lights on at night for fear of 'lake flies'. Room was offered as double but was extremely cramped. Could barely get around the bed. Free Wi-Fi only available in hotel lobby. I had ants in my room and it looked tired and dirty. For the price I was surprised with the quality. I have paid less and had more at other places and although it looks nice from the outside, my room looked old/dated and everything felt old and dirty as if the room had not been renovated in a long time as well as feeling miss matched both furniture and dressings.
