all reviews » This is my first time staying at Hotel Edoya. When I chanced upon this hotel on the internet, I was really thrilled. It is really difficult to find an accommodation that could house 4 of us & what's more - great price, Japanese-Styled room, ready hot coffee welcoming us at the lobby especially during this winter season, onsen, free wifi, nice breakfast, good location, cleanliness, availability of washing machine/dryer, friendly staff, a blood pressure measuring machine, etc...WOW! We wer. Just a couple of blocks from Ueno it's handy to both Ueno JR lines and Kinsei lines. Only a couple of stations from Tokyo station. We found this a great place to walk around both day and night. Heaps of shops in Ueno. The main park in Uneo on a Sunday is an excellent place to hang out. We would definitely stay here again. The Ryokan style is nice and we had traditional futon bedding which can be a little hard if not used to it. The traditional Japanese style of the hotel and the rooms accommodations. The location was fantastic, right down the street from Electric Town and great shopping. The rooms are very large for japanese standards and beautifully arranged, full of light, and so fascunating. - Huge, traditional rooms - has a living room area - clean rooms, though a bit old - Many convenience stores and eating places nearby - Good value for money - has breakfast thrown in the package - pretty ok! - A walkable distance from Akihabara (walkable but still quite a distance). The hotel is small and the staff went out of their way to help which contributes to a friendly atmosphere for all guests. We all enjoyed the onsen. Children loved sleeping on the futons with big cosy duvets. A very positive experience, we would stay again and recommend to all. The staff was very friendly, accommodating, & knowledgeable. Spacious. 1/ The cleaning of rooms is not always very good, sometimes they do not take additional bag of trash that had been left, a piece of rolled hairs in the bathroom found when we came. Just little things - but very disturbing. 2/ Floor of corridors in the 2nd floor was really old and not nice. 3/ Power of lights in corridors on 2nd floor was not strong enough giving bad mood in the morning. No windows in floor corridors. The things are pretty old & the little uphill walk to the hotel. It's an older hotel but we had no issues whilst staying here. Ok just one, the public bath was way too hot but we had our own bath in our room anyway. - It's a pretty tedious upwards climb to the hotel - ok for the first few times but after a long day out it really is the last thing you'd want. - Near a subway station (Yushima), but quite a distance from the more convenient JR stations (Okachimachi) - Location around it seems a bit more run down than the others. Only lobby has a working wireless. Both our daughters have to take time out of the room to surf. Room could use a little updating (empty light fixture, water feature in room not working). These are small issues though. Great hotel. Short of info for transport. No maps of area. Non English speakers . Bathroom is traditional style which I personally didn't like it. It was a bit of a hike up the hill from the station(s) nearby, and it was at times a little gloomy. In-room bathtub (made of wood) is not so clean. Should privide a suction fan inside. Booked a quad room, but received a triple + 1 so not much space around the beds for luggage or movement. A bit far from station Rooms are small. Communication difficult if you don't speak Japanese well. poor breakfast. Onsen not nice at alll. we stay there for 8 nights. The third night used to be Japan public holiday for that day. When we went back to hotel for a hot bath, there was no hot water. The staff told us that the hotel is fully booked and hot water from the tank has been used up. This happened to be the same for the next morning. At the end, my kids have to take a bath without hot water during the winter. What a joke. it really suck. And, the bathroom had a bad smell, need to be refurbished. Hotel is on the hill, difficult to walk with luggage. Breakfast is same menu every day. I needed an extra futon and was told there were none and staff was gone. No wifi in the room, bathtub was scary old, stairwell carpet was really dingy. Room, and bath room were not clean. Decoration, furnitures and facilities were old. Shower was not hot enough. Old tatami with stains, plastic bowls at breakfast.
