Kashima Honkan is a traditional Japanese style hotel. It's quite experience to stay there. It's party of three for us and we stay in one room sleep on futon. The sheets are clean and the blankets are enough for the cold winter. We had the Japanese style breakfast (additional fee) one morning which was lovely!! It's quite a value for what we pay! all reviews » Beautiful inn and large rooms. Small and beautiful garden outside my room's window. Some of the facilities are slightly worn, but not unusably so, and I think it adds to the atmosphere of a historic inn. Great location in the middle of Fukuoka, with easy access to most points of interest. Great location, walking distance from Gion station, shopping area and beautiful Kushida shrine. Easy reach (bus 88, which goes very regular) to fukuoka ferry terminal for JR Beetle to South Korea. Very good traditional Japanese experience. the staff is great, the rooms are really nice, the whole decoration and interior is done very nicely, it has this unique Ryokan flair, and that in the middle of the city, 5min walk to many of the most famous temples and shrines of Fukuoka. We like to have been able to experience the old Japan. The facilities were a little worn but vey authentic. The area was very nice and had many attractions to visit. We especially liked the Kishida Shrine. Location was excellent for accessing public transportation hub. About a 5 minute ride by taxi. Staff was friendly and could communicate in English. Very comfortable rooms. Much larger than expected, with alcove with 2 comfortable armchairs. Great breakfast. Great location and value. Nice atmosphere!. clean and comfortable (expect the private shower) the room is spatial. in spite of being defined as a single room, it could actually accommodate two people. The location is great; near JR Train station & local shopping. Ryokan has nice, traditional ambience. Enjoyed the onsen bath. Since it's a typical Japanese hotel the bathroom /restroom is separate located. In the cold winter night when you need to go to the rest room you have to put on extra clothes walk down the hallway to the restroom (very cold). The hotel is completely airconditioned. Only inside your own room and the small lobby area. But if during summer time I don't think that will be a problem!!. The dryers don't work too well, but it is Japan, after all. Floorboards are squeaky and sound isolation is not the best since it's an old inn. I had no problems, but if you are a light sleeper, best to bring earplugs just in case. Bit worn, but authentic. Ofuro (hot bath) closes at 24:00 and is not open in the morning. The facility is well used. If you are looking for new, this is not the place. Consequently the toilet and bath are on the first floor. Inconvienient for rooms on the second floor. Curfew at midnight, but I guess this is the same for all ryokans in Japan. A bit far from train station floor made of wood, made a noise while walking wifi available only at the lobby If price was cheaper 10-20%, that's excellent. a lot of dust. the wifi seems to be limited to the entrance erea. no signal, at least, in my room. Thought the private shower & toilet is ensuite but is actually along hallway; hence it's kind of inconvenient in the middle of night. There was no service and the hot spring is not very hot only a very small room.
