We were very happy to have Francesco meet us and take us to the apartment to settle us in. The apartment was huge, very well equipped and really gave us all the room to move that we needed. The proximity to the boats and gondolas was a delight and really kept the children entertained for long periods every day. The location was superb. Our host Christiano met us at the water bus station and walked us to the apartment. We were in the 2 bedroom with balcony overlooking the canal. The apartment is huge, very clean and has everything you need. The air conditioning worked perfectly and there is a washing machine. The beds were comfortable. The location is perfec. I was travelling with my 3 friends and we were all impressed with the apartment. Having rang the number we were given when we landed it was arranged we would be met at the bus station and it was a 15 minute walk from there. Thank goodness as we would have been looking for it still. It is only a large door in an alleyway. Its location is very central and handy for the supermarket and a few reasonable restaurants. The apartment has all you need, we thought it didn't have a cooker but realized. Unlike many other European rentals we've experienced, it had plenty of fresh nice towels andextra toilet tissue as well as nice quality kitchen equipment. The view was nice and staff very responsive. Francesco met us at the parking garage even though we were a couple of hours late and he was very gracious. So glad he was there to walk us to the apartment! The apartment Ca'Veronese was great and it was special to stay in a real palace with 2 water gates at the junction of 2 canals. The gondolas go right by underneath the windows. The Santa Croce area is a bit of a gem close to everything a traveller needs yet with a distinctive character of its own. It was within walking distance of both the train station and St. Mark's Square. It took us a while to get the hang of opening the door to the apartment. There is definitely a knack to it. It took some time & much map consulting to find the apartment at night. Not much, but the stove top grates couldn't be found for the first 24 hours, but finally were found in the dishwasher. A good map is essential on arrival, but was explained to us they had just run out. Nothing. Francesco could not have been more helpful and friendly with maps, advice etc. Kitchen cupboards and drawers were a little difficult to open or close - felt like they wouldn't last too many years. The lighting was dim in the kitchen and living room and there was only one reading lamp in the second bedroom. Everything was super!. Wi-Fi is poor, dropping connections every time. A few things in the apt. could have been updated, but overall everything was working fine. Nothing really to substantially blame. A few minor things could be done with a bit of maintenance. Travelers need to do a checklist before accepting the apartment: - WiFi - Hot water for shower - how to operate the washing machine We discovered the hot water was gone late in the night. And we are not familiar with how to run the automated washing machine (Italian Instructions). Flat was a little dated internally (other than bathroom, which had been recently redone). Kitchen a bit short of equipment / utensils. We did not realize that first floor means actually 2nd...No elevator, of course!...Also, a little too far if your legs are not too good, to visit the main touristic areas of Venice. But we thought it was worth every step to have a nice place to come back to. Nothing. It was great!. Hard to find, which is why you are met at Piazzale Roma and walked fve minutes to it. The main bedroom could do with a refresh. Needed a couple of side tables; a washing machine would be useful. Nothing to dislike. Rather dark and poor lighting but have found that common in Europe. No shower curtain for shower over bath. Bedside lights in one bedroom did not work. kitchenfurniture a bit outdated, no kitchen linnen,. You have to calculate a 10 minutes walk from the nearest public transportation. Not very well equipped had we wished to do more cooking. No sign of an electric (or any other kettle). But adequate for minimal cooking and eating. Perhaps worth telling owners that one of the recommended restaurants Osteria Mocenigo wasn't very good, although La Zucca was excellent. No daily housekeeping service. New furniture would add the extra point to be perfect. Needed another couch for the living room. I liked all of it!. This was a different apartment than we stayed in the first time, and we had a problem with the hot water heater. The staff did call the repair people, but it wasn't repaired by the time we left.
