The Taj Malabar is a superb smallish quality hotel set in beutiful grounds with expansive views accross a wide river estuary to the old Kochi city and newer commercial docks beyond. The movement of ships adds to the scene. From the moment you enter the premises you know you are in for a pleasantly memorable stay. We were treated to sumptious meals at the eating places at all times. The food was spectacular. The trip from the hotel to the backwaters was very good and worth every rupee. When our meal arrived an hour late, the manager immediatelycompensated without any fuss bytaking it off our bill. It is a short ferry ride from the main sights on fort cochin. We didn't find this a big deal though, as ferries were a few min walk and very regular. The surrounding area of the hotel is not the best, quite run down but don't let that put you off the hotel as it was excellent. Location is the only drawback - the hotel is not within walking distance of anything. To get to Kochin, the nearest town, is a 15-minute ferry ride (or half hour in a cab). Charging extra for internet (wifi) access seems a dated idea for a luxury hotel but don't let it put you off this is one of my favorite hotels. single glazed windows, some noises from the nearby factory woke us up sometimes at night. Room was old fashioned and dark. Nothing. going out is not nice because it is on the wrong side of the river and there is only harbour facilities, so you have to drive a bit to get to Fort Kochin. No free internet Price was not the same as when I booked with letsbookhotel.com. Loved it all. 1. I didn't like the way Taj Malabar treated the foreigners & the natives. One of my friend who stayed a week before, was given gifts like jewellry, spices & was treated with a jasmine garland. I don't think the natives don't deserve these pampering!!?? 2. The pavillon restaurant and others should cook the meat/lamb more as it was hard. Nothing!. smaller and older building and swimming pool that it looks like on the pictures. some rooms have a view on a industrial area restaurant is very expensive. Nothing that I didn't like - all good!. none. Internet very poor and costly. The birds joining me at breakfast on the beautiful patio :-). Nothing. $. Internet access not free and quality isn't good.Location ....nowhere to walk to from hotel - it's in the middle of an industrial estate !. The enitire F&B service was totaly disaster. Very expensive and very slow wi-fi Too far from the airport (daytime not less than 1 hour), no beach.
