Reaching Alexander Platz is just a10 min journey. Overall a very well appointed hotel, fantastic value for money compared with other hotels and staff were extremely attentive and helpful. Everything! The hotel is quite some way from Berlin's main attractions and reaching Kurfurstdendamm or Potstdamer Platz although easy, involves two trams and about 17 stops. The area immediately around the hotel is not the most attractive but OK. On our final morning, the cleaner came to the room on 3 separate occasions to clean the room when we were packing (after breakfast). I presume that she did not know that we were leaving & had access to our room until 12pm. This was a little frustrating, but otherwise there was nothing we didn't like. The hotel is not close to main attractions, but I had a car, so wasn't concerned about that too much. It is next to tram station, so travelling around shouldn't be a problem. Minor grumble: We arrived late at night and were given a room for the handicapped. It was fine but had no shelves or drawers. Only when I mentioned it on checkout was I told that we could have been moved the next day. Had we been offered that at checkin we would have planned to move. It would have been nice with a quiet bar area, where you could sit and talk over a cup of coffee. Nothing. Maybe not the best area for sightseeing, but worked fine for my needs. The allocated room smelt of stale cigarette smoke ~ not acceptable! However, when complained about this, we were given a smoke free room. The Restaurant food was only average, and the price of a 75cl bottle of water was just short of 8 Euro ~ THIS IS TAKING THE PROVERBIAL!!. Was uncomfortably hot in room with minimal A/C and barely openable window. Street noise is substantial unless on the inner courtyard. Very long walk to elevator (~1 city block distance). Room came with transportation tickets (Berlin Welcome Cards) for the whole 8 days but was no mention of this on website (so I bought one at airport). They were unwilling to refund the cost. WiFi could be faster, but this is a problem we have found in all hotels we've been to in Germany: to get a better speed you must to pay more. Location of Andel's wasn't that good but I can use tram in front of hotel easily. Only the sky bar seemed to want to serve you a drink on the evening. The downstairs facilities and service was slow and complicated. alittke more cupboard space would be nice. Local shopping not extensive. While hotel is new, surroundings are rather dreary. Location is not the best. Around 5kms to the center. Charge extra money for hi speed internet. Slightly un-personal and "plastic" specially in lobby and common areas. Asked for double bed but was given 2 singles. I only could get a smoking room. I am not a smoker. It smelled really bad, opening window helped a little. Location a bit far out from the city. Not very personal. position not exactly central (but public transports close and efficient). sometimes little bit crowdy. Little bit arogant staff. Surrounding is not really exciting but the public transportation is in frontof the door. My room was exactly 105 steps to nearest elevator. I probably lost some weight by walking to/from the elevators. non-functioning fridge. the location is a little bit far from the center of the city. Heating trough the airco centrally blocked - cold room.
