Great pool area; heated pool; beautiful nature gardens; parakeets in trees by pools; fantastic breakfast buffet; comfortable bed; extra toiletries in bathroom. Small birthday cake in honor of my birthday. Birthday gift of free WIFI from very nice receptionist (normally they charge $12/day or $20 for two days of WIFI). Didn't have to put toilet paper in basket like most places in Costa Rica.
all reviews » I am not objective as I made the big mistake and stayed at the Costa Rica Gran Hotel the night before which wasn't a great experience, however having made the above disclaimer :), The Barceló is a very nice hotel, modern spacious and clean facilities, food options, spa, wifi etc etc.. nice comfortable rooms and absolutely good value for money, I Would go back and hope you enjoy too :). Just great. We had the $15.00 special supplement. Didn't really understand what it was, but the rose petals Spanish sparkling wine and chocolate covered strawberries were absolutely great. I have been lodged at San José Palacio many times. Never complained about anything. Very nice hotel, excellent !!. Very friendly and proactice staff, nice hotel bar fitness and pool. Fantastic quality for a moderate price. The hotel is VERY clean, VERY modern and VERY well maintained with a beautiful garden area and pool. The location is great. The service is wonderful and the concierges are excellent and very helpful. Full suite of facilities. Options for dining Shuttle to airport Price / value was very good. 20 min from the airport, free schuttle. I will come back again. This is hotel is close to the airport with free schuttle. I have been travel around the world 78 country this hotel is the worst I ever been,every thinking from staff to service is -10. No bath towels, hand towels or bath mat when needed. Cracks in bathroom floor. Room was more like 3 stars, grounds and pool were 4 stars. The Cafe seemed consistently understaffed and underprepared, and the breakfast was lackluster. Being unable to buy a non-alchoholic drink like a soda without going through the concierge. Rated 5 star but is getting a little tired. Wifi advertised as free but was not. Wifi access was very poor. We have to pay for the wifi. We have to pay for wifi. Pillows too big. the air conditioning did not work. I called the front desk but no one came to fix it. luckily it wasn't too hot. A/c did'nt work.luckily the weather was cool at night. everything was great. We stayed and extra night, however we could not obtain the same price for the second night as original price booked earlier on line. * Bathrooms are too small for a Couple. * Bathtub was awefull, too slippery. * Was forced to put a towel on floor of Tub too avoid falling. Bad design. The location is good if you are on a business trip and/or using a car. If you want to explore San Jose on foot you have 2 options - walking on the hard shoulder on the Panamerican Highway or going through dodgy neighbourhoods (although we didn't have any problems walking there and generally felt quite safe). Nothing,I hade the worst exp ever,,,,,,do not ever ever anyone go there,,belive me,,,,,,.
