Professionalism of staff-English speaking staff at front desk 24 hours daily during our stay-Dec.18-21,2013. My wife suddenly became ill during the middle of the night and the staff directed us to a 24 hour clinic only two blocks away with an English speaking Doctor leaving us very satisfied with the service provided by the hotel and the clinic. The reception staff spoke English and were very helpul in advising and assisting with tours, bookings of taxis and general advice. The room staff were very efficient and the restaurant was great with both breakfasts, and al a carte meals for dinner. The location, one street back from the beach at Copacobana was excellent.
all reviews » Good location. A short walk from the Copacabana beach and with a wide selection of shops/restaurants nearby. Bus stop outside the hotel and only a few minutes on foot to the Metro line. Hotel was clean and with decent size rooms. Excellent shower. Decent buffet breakfast. Overall, the staff were polite and helpful. Our stay at the Mar Palace was certainly a contributing factor in us enjoying Rio. Clean, safe and comfortable with fabulous staff in all departments but outstanding reception staff who gave helpful tips, directions and information. Bernadette and Co. very beautiful, nice staff, great breakfast, nice terrace on top, nice small pool, one of few places we could find with 2 double beds per room which is what we needed, good places to eat nearby and good recommendation from staff. The staff were not friendly, and there was an extra change when checking in, which I hadn't budgeted for. Not enough sun loungers. Lift broke down and was on top floor :0( No tea or coffee making facilities in room. Bar closed early. Price! Ridiculous. And having to pay for the internet in room was not good value for the amount we paid to stay here. I requested a non smoking room and they gave me a smoking room. There's nothing to like at this interesting hotel.very high price for a hostel standard! Rooms are incredibly dirty,stuff was interesting,if you pay the cost of wi-fi therell be only 1 available connection.breakfast was poor etc,etc.. The worst hotel I have every stayed so far...
