Based in an old Rio neighborhood up the hill from the city center with cobblestone streets and plenty of nice restaurants and bars, Casa Cool Beans has an exceptional staff. The owners, Lance and David, are American. We met only Lance, since David is managing their second property in Rio. The staff are English-speaking Brazilians. The manager, Sergio, was very friendly, very helpful, and very competent. The staff go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to make your visit to Rio seamles.
all reviews » What is there not to like about this brilliantly conceived guest house? The attention to detail in every aspect was much appreciated. Very much like staying at a family home, yet with freedom and privacy. Our host (Lance) was very welcoming, extremely knowledgeable about Rio and Santa Teresa, which is the immediate neighbourhood of the guest house and which itself has so much to offer in terms of restaurants, art and craft shops and the lively Bar Gomes so close by. The experience is superb, wi. Best B and B breakfast we've ever experienced, fabulous location just blocks from great bars/restaurants, ATM, and pharmacy in a great walkable neighborhood, owners and manager were friendly, helpful and so accomodating to our needs, great water pressure, comfortable beds, beautiful public areas and grounds in a very safe, secure place. Cool Beans is a great place to stay, with nicely decorated rooms, a cracking breakfast and an interesting location. It's X Factor is the personal touch offered by the owner Lance who was an outstanding host and really helped us plan and enjoy our time in Rio. Very nice rooms. Helpful staff. Nice location in a very lovely neighbourhood (don't stay in Santa Teresa only if you want to be right next to the beach). Customer service was first class, the rooms were tastefully designed and cleaned thoroughly. An absolute memorable place to stay and in a fab location. Excellent location, helpful and friendly owners and staff. Very good breakfast, nice pool area. Super helpful manager and owner. Beautiful friendly place. The staff was great!. Unfortunately, they require payment in cash, not credit card. Not a problem, since they let you know up front, but a complication that I hope will be done away with in the future. One other thing that I missed was a way to heat water for coffee or tea in the room. what's not to love??. It is only mentioned after booking that you are obliged to take a private taxi from Casa Cool Beans (at a very heavy cost of 90 us dollars) if you arrive after 8pm. This should be mentioned in the terms on letsbookhotel.com before booking. The price is not cheap but comparable with other hotels in the same category in the same area.
