The building is very beautiful, as is the town of Mechelen. The location is great, 10-minute walk to the train station and close to restaurants and shops etc. The rooms are stunning, spacious and clean. The beds are extremely big and comfy. The staff were such a massive help with any queries we had and were super friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, probably the best I've stayed in.
all reviews » Room overlooked the city through a small but functional window, centrally located so walking everywhere was a breeze. Gorgeous converted church with original altar in the dining area combining historic and modern architecture seamlessly. Well stocked breakfast area including champagne. Room was on the top floor in the chapel with a window looking on the large stained glass rose window. everything, from start to finish of our 5 day stay,the breakfsat was an amazing experience, we also ate in the bar on arrival and food was of a very high quality. the room was an absolute delight,much more luxurious than we expected, the bed was very comforatable, but being memory foam was quite hot, so beware if this is not an effect you enjoy. Martin's took this historical church building in the heart of the city of Mechelen and converted it into a hotel, while preserving the building's history and architecture. The location was good - near the historic center of Mechelen. The hotel is very special being a converted church and nunnery. My room was in the church and stained glass windows. Breakfast was served in a large room in the nave of the original church. I thought the staff were excellent, extremely helpful and hospitable, even when I arrived very early before a wedding and spent sometime at the hotel before checking in later that day, and ditto the next day after I'd checked out. The place is lovely and characterful. This is a large traditional style of church that has been beautifully converted into a quality hotel. Excellent air-conditioning, good service: gorgeous. I have stayed in many of Mechelens hotels, this one, is by far the best so far. Unique, warm, friendly atmosphere. The staff are great, the room was fantastic. Will be staying here again. Well designed modification of an existing building (church), repurposed into a hotel. Very professional and friendly staff. Location is near city center. The hotel framework and design are beautiful. The hotel was quite unique in that it's a converted church. But because of that, location of rooms and hotel lay-out is a bit difficult. The location was ok for me as it's in walking distance of everything. Staff was helpful and efficient. Room has all necessary amenities and everything is of good quality. Great location near Fish market and not far from cathedral and other sights in charming Me Helen. Room very comfortable. - Quite room (convent) - seperate bath and toilet (room 105). the church. Ex church. Keeping the original architecture in the room meant some tight squeezes around furniture and vaulted ceilings. Also no shower in the room, only a tub with detachable shower head (no curtain). Parking at the facility was costly at 25€ a day and I must've missed that it wasn't included with the stay. Street parking was almost impossible to find. my one critisism of the room was the lack of space for hanging clothes,one small cupboard and no drawers for undies etc, we virtually lived out of our cases for the 5 days.which did not go with the luxurious surroundings.if you were staying for longer i think this would be a problem. Room service charges are a bit expensive (the same food is available at the bar at no extra charge), but who needs it anyway... Head out, explore and go eat in one of the many restaurants or bistros in the neighbourhood. The mirror in the bathroom was set far behing the wash basin making it hard to see yourself clearly for shaving. I was in the cheaper rooms so not actually in the church part, so the room was very nice, but not quite the experience I would have had if I had stayed in the church part. Breakfast a little pricey at 20 euros. The parking! Expensive and there was no slot... There were no free tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Hot drinks were 3 Euros each which you had to make using a Rombouts coffee / tea maker, which in our room was out of order. The advert doesn't really reflect the reality, we were in a very small room on the first floor which bares no resemblence with the smart stained glass windows in certain other (possibly more expensive) rooms Breakfast is 20 € !!!. The breakfast crew cleaned up our entire table when we went to get coffee and the entire breakfast room was dominated by a group of around 30. They should have gotten a separate room. Bar staff could be more proactive too. Job was combined with reception desk hence service was very slow. Inadequate instructions for coffee machine. Price of breakfast. limited choice of evening food, only bar snacks. Parking costs hotel, better to park in 24 hrs surveilled parking. breakfast was poor. Breakfast of 20 euro each is to expencive. My room was a bit small. Decor a little too dark, making it difficult to read or do anything at night. Atmosphere in public areas a bit funereal and overall lack of atmosphere. Very few staff around and eating options in hotel limited on Sunday night and Monday during the day. - breakfast expensive - hotel parking expensive. Absolutey rip Off Pricing for what it was.
