Excellent location. Very attractive grounds. Clean and very well appointed room. Comfortable bed. Quiet location. Very interesting garden walk with information on W.W.1. The staff were very friendly and helpful. rooms were comfortable. close to the town, museums and places of interest i.e. ww1 battlefields and war graves..The setting was lovely, the rooms clean and spacious, staff friendly and the banana split we indulged in at 10pm was delicious. Splendid hotel, and we loved the World War I connections in the grounds. They should make this known on their web page.Friendly and prompt service. Surroundings were in an ideal location for us as our stay was for a "Battlefields tour". We had a very pleasant stay, staff very friendly and helpful, this was our second visit and it will not be our last.Excellent experience - highly recommended. The retention by the hotel of the local history of the area through the preservation of the WW1 sites in its grounds. The general air of old world charm. Unspoilt by progress. Nice people, excellent beers, proximity to WWI sites, local atmosphere. It had a friendly feel and a very good selection of belgium beer. the welcome and friendliness of the staff. Lovely rooms with antique furniture.We liked the fact that the grounds were part of World War 1 history and trenches and craters had been preserved. We stayed in winter but am sure, with its gardens, that it is a lovely place to stay in spring/summer. Food was excellent, and the staff helpful and friendly. The historical aspects and position.Character hotel. would have liked tea and coffee facilities in the room, even if only a kettle were provided.If staying for several days, use of a car would be good, as although the taxi service was very good, you did need to book in advance. As above, only the shower. The towels were a bit beyond their best. It would be nice to have more pillows on the bed!. Bathroom very old fashioned; towels paper thin and old; restaurant was cramped. No tea/coffee making facilities.Heating was poor in the hotel and limited towels available in the room.

Ieper (Ypres) :
City with a very rich history : the Cloth Hall, Belfry, the renovated Market Place, St. Martin’s Cathedral, “In Flanders Fields Museum” (= a war museum for peace) St. George’s Memorial Church (= an Anglican church built in 1928 –29), the Ramparts and last but not least… the Menin Gate (the last Post is sounded every evening at 8 p.m.)
Bellewaerde Park : a very attractive Theme Park close to Ypres;
A lot of rural roads are perfectly suited for cycling. They have an approximate length of 45km such as the Route of Peace, passing along so many cemeteries.
An ideal day trip by car to discover a number of important World War I sites and other regional highlights is the “In Flanders Fields Route” that starts at Ieper and follows several secondary roads (important stop at Essex Farm with the John McCrae shelter outside Ieper on the way to Dixmude (Boezinge).
