The location is great, very close to most of the shopping malls. The room is clean, with all necessary facilities. The hotel is surrounded by cafes and restaurants, some of them are quite famous, which is amazing for a foodie like me. The staff in the hotel are really nice and helpful. They also allow customers to leave luggage for hrs after checkout. The staff were friendly and professional. The motel room was clean and a good size. The kitchen was small and compact and we were able to prepare and cook meals to save money. It was nice and quiet and the beds were firm but comfortable. We would have no hesitation in returning to that motel when we visit Melbourne again.

Although no microwave, at least in studio rooms, great to see a two burner stove top, unusual for city accommodation unless apartments. Excellent base for Melbourne sightseeing, shopping, travelling to outer areas, etc. Safe environment. That's the second time I have stayed at garden city hotel and both times I have been very happy with my stay. Perfect location and great value for money. The hotel is a bit tired, mostly in the public areas - could do with a bit of a spruce. But everything was spotlessly clean. We had a room above the street, and it was quite noisy (but we both had earplugs). Also, a tiny thing - we would have liked a plunger in the "fully stocked kitchen" - we'd even brought the coffee!. The outlook of the room wasn't very nice, a brick wall and windows. The smell of cooking permeated into our room from adjoining rooms, and it was a bit noisy. They also need to oil all the doors as they squeek loudly!. Fan not working in bathroom. Very foggy. Mould on walls as result. Noisy, window let sound through. Need 2nd mirror in main room to use whilst someone uses the bathroom. There were lots of cigarette butts on the window ledge outside my room. A microwave in room would have been nice, too, although there is one available for use within the hotel. Bit of a cleanliness freak so I would have liked to see the shower floor and the entire bathroom floor spotless to be honest. (Bi-carb soda and vinegar do a great, cheap job). Some friends were with us from Queensland and their room was very small they did request a change of room which the staff did for them which was great because they were staying a few more days after we left. I didn't like the noise. It was a Saturday and I only stayed that night as it this was a trip work related. The noise was unacceptable, really loud young people coming in and out, and this went till 5am. I could not have much sleep and a proper rest. It was probably a bit far if you want to walk to southern cross station to take skybus with your luggages. TV could be upgraded to a bigger screen as we had to spend a little time i the room Lack of TV channels [petty i know ]. Walls needed a bit of paint. Our room was a little small, and could not lock bathroom window, but the bed was great. Only window looked out into area between building and had a partial sky covering so could only get a glimpse outside. Couldnt tell what weather was like. Fridge did not work. Air conditioner/heater did not work. Very noisy,but we stayed on a Saturday night so to be expected. Brighter light in bathroom needed for putting on makeup and shaving. Nil!. The tv was to small. The tv was a bit on the small side and the shower didnt have a closing door which was a bit odd otherwise good. No safe in the rooms, this is not the kind of hotel for couples relaxing break, this hotel is just your basic get your head down. A little noisy at night need double glazed windows. Bathroom reminded us of a hospital. Its a bit run down, but positives outweigh the negatives. Wifi was pretty expensive, about $25 for 24hrs. Although we were on third level in a premier apartment there was a lot of street noise that came through the closed windows which made sleeping difficult. coffee satchels were not topped up - hey I need my coffee. Fridge was off - so not sure if the milk portions were ok - I don't use milk, however I did notice one container was empty (trashed it). We unfortunately had noisy neighbours on one night. To have more TV channels. Very low pressure shower and water not hot enough in winter. Bit of street noise. Very firm/hard foam mattress. Slow elevator. The entrance to the shower was very narrow, and there was no door so water escaped from that space. No foxtel channels available on the TV, and channel nine was sound only, which was a tad useless. - no view (as our room was towards the courtyard). Milk cartons were off in the fridge. I was charged 1.5% for using my Visa card for payment. Have never been charged before in any establishment. That angers me. No door on the shower, so water went everywhere. the view from the room. No microwave in the room. Night noise can be loud if the Windows are open. It was quite noisy, maybe it's the problem of living in the central of the city.
