I booked it as Smart Deal, so it was excellent value of money, considering location, facilities, stuff and comparing to another budget hotel in similar area and higher rate I used to stay. But this hotel obviously not a budget one, more like business travelers. Stuff was very friendly and helpful with luggage. all reviews » Attitude of staff, in comparison to some years ago when under another name, was wonderful and made us feel wanted. When our air conditioner wasn't working (very hot weather!), we were shifted without any fuss or us asking, to another room which was beautiful plus vouchers for a lovely breakfast were included. Definitely coming back thanks, and have recommended to others. Very handy arriving and departing on The Overlander. I liked the old world style,it felt homely.It was quite during the night.No traffic noise.The girls were friendly,and changed all towels,even though I did not use all.Replenished tea,etc.I loved the stay and am booked in again for my Qld holiday.My sons were impressed as well and are sure to use the same hotel.Great advantage for Vline users.So close to the city.I am glad that I chose to stay there. Budget cost, close proximaty to Southern Cross Railway Station and the room whilst not over roomy did provide us with what we expected and we thoroughly enjoyed our stasy and would definitely stay there again and would recommend it to friends. location is amazing like amazing value for money great...... i go clubing and it felt ssafe to walk home to there. umm clean friendly, felt safe happy friendly and just alround nice am jolly glad i stayed there just needs better shower head and tap so weak and too hot or cold haah. As i regularly travel by train from country victoria to Perth WA the location is great to break my journey and spend the night so close to spencer st stationfrom sky bus terminal. This is a very basic budget hotel room a couple of hundred metres from the Southern Cross Railway station. For $75 in the centre of Melbourne it is hard to beat. The rooms are cheaply furnished but they are clean and staff are friendly and very helpful. Courteous staff at check-in and no problems with room/access card/etc so no need to bother staff with any problems during my stay. The rooms are very quiet being away from road noise. Easy to find centrally located beside train station very freindly front of house staff clean and tidy easy to meet friends at and launch off for a night or day out, the airport bus stops here if you need to be picked up or dropped you off. The room was very clean. The sheets were crisp and white. The hotel was quiet, despite being in the heart of the city. The staff were friendly and helpful. We would stay there again. The location was great, a 2 block suitcase trundle from the end of the Skybus from the airport. We stayed in a king room, everything was good. Breakfast and the desk staff was also good. I had a computer gliche. It stated the date I booked the hotel on a special deal which I didnt notice until I booked in, and had to pay another fee for the date I arrived. No towel in bathroom and only 2 teabags!! minor details. Nothing I did not like. steps at front door smoking in bulding it rises up the court yard and stinks you out. The decor in the front of house needed some attention. It was cold and looked run down. There were no rugs, paintings, just a bare floor, a bare coffee table a cold and empty fireplace. The reception area was devoid of any decoration, giving it a feeling of being run down. It needed flowers or something to brighten it up. Unfortunately it didn't look anything like the photo. BUT. The room was newly refurbished and comfortable. I. Our TV and cabinet were a bit dated but refurbishment was ongoing. The restaurant was undergoing a change of management and did not have a drinks licence the week we were there. Although we didn't have much time to watch TV, when we did, the reception & picture was of very poor quality. Way below the norm experienced elsewhere. I know staff are very busy, but a quick mention with regard dining would be an advantage to this area. Would prefer small soaps rather than lotion. Creaking floor boards all around room and outside in hallway terrible. TV very poor/old fashioned - couldn't get very many channels - needs to be updated asap. No problems for us but a French couple had a problem when staff could not explain their bill to them luckily I could help. The courtyard is unusual!. After the hot day, our room was facing the West. Room was very stuffy and hot as air conditioner either was not working properly, or was unable to work efficiently in the heat. We opened the window and got a little breeze but also had to leave the curtains open for the breeze to come in, which also let the spot light shine in the room. Would have been great if we could have cooled the room down before sleeping. The extremely small car parking facilities. I do not believe that they should advertise car parking as it only held about 12 cars. We had to wait over an hour for our evening meals in the Hotel's restaurant from the time we ordered. After walking around city all day... i was a bit disappointed as the shower was pretty dodgy-a tepid trickle-at peak hour,third floor mind(6-6.30pm) but pretty good at 3.30am!. My television wouldn't tune in!. There was nothing I didn't like. It suited my needs. The overall appearance is shabby,but they are working on it. It might be worth stating that work is in progress. The budget rooms do appear to be uninhabitable,but mine was fine. Didn't understand why the hotel charged a fee for storing luggage. Wasn't a huge fee, but it took away from the service offering. Nothing, it was good value for money. Burnt Lamp shades, No Knives forks, Breaky/Bowls, Tea towel's,. obviously the reception area hasn t been updated yet!!. the rain kept us awake. All good other wise. No hand soap?! That's all!. There wasn't anything we didn't like about our stay. No bar. Had a meal in restaurant, they forgot half our order and only offered a free can of coke to make up for it. Main meal took forever to come out. Courtyard room is a bit of a furphy because I dont know where our courtyard was!. The carpet was stained. No window view. fourth floor access between lifts and rooms a bit confusing, hanging space in rooms for clothes very limited. Building is old and in need of repair which is happening at the moment. No proper soap in the room. Although the linen and bathroom was clean, the interior walls were dirty and very scuffed - a coat of paint would make a huge diffrence.
