I can't say enough good things about the Alto and staff . The room was clean ,comfortable and had little extras that made you feel at home.I had a mini box of chocolates and a welcome note waiting in my room as well as my luggage that they had kept secure for me for a week I was traveling to Caines . Walking distance to Southern Cross and Etihad ! Just Awesome Hotel. The beds were probably the most comfortable we had slept in over the 5 weeks we were away. The staff were very friendly and the manager went out of his way to help solve an issue I had with my myki card. He was also a valuable source of information on what to do in Melbourne.

Some evidence of dust/dirt in room particularly on hard to reach surfaces and in corners. The pillows are not so comfy. The cookies in the room - hardly a big beef though. The room seemed stuffy and if you opened the windows the trams and construction workers would wake you at 5am. I am not used to sleeping with air con on. Some of the information given by staff was not helpful, ie enquired about the free tram service around the city at 6.30pm when going out for dinner - given full details, but not the fact that they did not run after 6pm - quite frustrating when it was cold and raining and we had walked 2 blocks down. I only had one minor problem, the windows let a lot of noise through. There is no bar in the hotel on weekends, so upon returning from a day out, there is no option other than returning to your room. nothing - everything was fine. View from window (almost non existent). Room a bit small but clean. Tiny bar area. Too small window from room, looked out onto brick wall and guttering!! ugh!!!. Bathroom felt a little motel like and impersonal Outlook (none). Charged to make a phine call for room service.The dinner at the restaurant was mediocre. Break starting at 7.30 on Saturday and Sunday and Bar/resturant not open on Saturday night. Noise from the air-conditioning fans coming out of the neighbouring building. off-site parking about 3 mins walk was a little inconvenient. nothing. We didn't realise that it was so close to the Etihad Stadium. This made it difficult to have a nice quiet meal on Saturday. Call a taix yourself, dont ask reception to do it for you. The hotel was great but now you are not being able to buy a day train ticket.
