Good location, theme style accommodation without too much pizass and staff who integrate within the local community. Whilst the exterior is designed to be olde world, the inerior is very 21st century with excellent cooking, bathing and sleeping facilities, and even though on a major highway, suprisingly quiet and acoustically neutral. One of those hidden gems one finds in Tasmania, the well kept secret destination.
all reviews » We loved the layout. We felt like we were staying in a tree house, which was fun. The rooms were well appointed. Loved the idea of the pump packs of products in the bathroom. We were grateful to be able to leave our car in the carpark even after we had checked out, giving us a bit more time to explore Launceston before heading off. And the restaurant attached to the premises was excellent. I was very surprised at the standard of this accommodation for money. Don't be put off by the lower price. Rooms were pleasing - clean, new bedding, modern luxurious bathroom, blended with a nice old world feel, making it less sterile than others. No worn out feel about this place, either. Will book again when next in Launceston. Shuttle to airport was prompt and fast. The staff very kindly moved us to a ground floor room so we didn't have to climb flights of outside stairs.The room, in an old stone building, was well designed; and included a bar fridge and spacious new bathroom. Free off-street parking was available.The city centre was a few blocks' level walk; a large riverside park, just across the street. Loved the convenience of being so close to the city centre and yet also close to the river and beautiful gorge. Having the kitchen in the unit was also very handy as we had teenagers to feed. The history of the Penny Royal added to its charm. Staff were friendly and helpful - they replaced a faulty bar fridge quickly once reported. I really liked the decor and design of the room and the bathroom which were very clean and modern. The extras like the soap and complimentary quality toiletries were great in the pump action bottles thoughtfully mounted on the walls. I just love staying there and will do so again when we visit Tassie. Extraordinary location, must be the best in Launceston. It was like staying in Rapunzels' tower, with a view of the towering stone cliff behind and over the town in front with the Gorge a few minutes away. Take advantage of the cheap motel prices and go for a 1 bedroom tower apartment. It was a great hotel and I definitely recommend it! It looked really nice from the outside with a old style and it was perfectly maintained with a new style inside. Great location next to the river, gorge and walking distance to town. The staff was really nice and helpful as well. I liked the location and the "old style" feel to it, even though it was noisy and the floors creaked. It was great to stay in some thing so different. We have been going to Launceston for over 20 years and always say we will stay there and this time we did. The hotel is perfectly situated very close to the gorge, a walking distance. The room had everything we needed, including cooking facilities, free parking and was very clean and comfy. Definitely reccommended. There is also a guest laundry room. My partner and I ALWAYS stay at Penny Royal, its quiet, good size room, lovely bathroom and close to everything we want to do, what more could we want. First impressions: how beautiful, on checking in which was really pleasant and helpful, on entering the room all I can say is that it was just spotless and all you could want. Lovely housekeeping staff always will to help if they could. i am really like the apartment style, the building looks really traditional and historical and good view as well. it was quite at night.the hotel offers everything you need. it also near the restaurants about 5 mins driving. Close to the city, parks, gorge, restaurants etc. very warm- no need for the electric blankets etc. I really like the girl in the reception for night shift. The triple room is very spacious. The hotel/ apt is a historic building. It was us pleasant experience to stay in this 19th century building. Escaped to Tasmania, ticked all the boxes! Breathtaking views of Cataract Gorge which is a walking distance and 5 mins drive to Chair Lift. Close to town but yet away from the noises. Speedy check in (with milk) and speedy check out. We really loved the rustic feel of the hotel and the friendly staff, but most of all we loved the food in the restaurant. We had a room in the tower which was big with a nice large lounge area. We really needed 2 bathrooms or even just the toilet to be seperate from the shower. The walls were very thin and you could hear EVERYTHING that was going on around you. nothing. I would have like to have a cafe there for breakfast, plus have Wi Fi there at no extra cost. apart from that nothing else. Paper thin walls, especially through the locked 'connecting' door. Could hear nearly everything from the ppl next door (granted, the couple weren't so considerate of the noises they made) - talking, radio / tv, their arguments and night- time activities (you know what I mean). Any improvement on sound insulation / soundproofing would be appreciated!!. nothing. Nothing. Wish we could have stayed longer than 1 night as the apt and its' location is perfect for family visiting Launceston and surrounds. The only thing we found annoying was the toaster set the alarm off whenever we made toast so we took it into the bathroom and turned the fan on while we made our toast. TV is kind of small is like what some cheap motels have. Disappointed but the view from the balcony save the day. The bed was a bit hard and I think I would have liked a bigger bed. The little shower in my room. Our room was close to the main highway and was a bit noisy. The bedroom I was staying needed curtains to blockbuster the lighting on the premises at night. Lugging our bags up the stairs. having to leave. A lovely 2 days, Thankyou. Nothing we did not like. Shower head a bit too rustic kept falling down and scolded turning off. Traffic noise intrusive but overall minor gripes in an otherwise very enjoyable stay. would like to have had face washers in bathroom. just a little bit dark in the room. bathroom great lighting but could have had extra ceiling light in main room. Wished the windmill could be restored as the gunpowder mill . Update of penny royal world + windmill restaurant. Slightly noisy but tolerable. That we didn't have another couple of nights there. The lady checking us in was very bossy and seemed stressed by the fact that our booking was for a party of 5 instead of 4 (we did it online and all was accepted there). the rooms 235 of twin rooms looks very old style and there is no heater in the bathroom and the bathroom is small. poor design of the shower-we had some problem with water coming to the floor from the shower(from the corner of the glass shower wall),but it has been fixed in time.
