My friend and I were very impressed with the Rex. We got such a good price on our stay there that we went with low expectations. However, from the first moment checking in at reception, where staff were welcoming and friendly, to waking up in the morning and seeing the view of Mt Ainslie (??!) out of our window, then going to breakfast where it was delicious and very friendly staff every morning...we were very pleasantly surprised. Pleasantly surprised to find it was a proper hotel room with all the facilities...full cooked breakfast included in the price. Staff were efficient and helpful although things got slightly confused when I decided to extend my stay by extra night. Wanted me to check out with all my luggage then check in again until we agreed that was pointless as I'd be going back into the same room! All sorted out with no proble. The original Rex was the terminus for the long distance coaches like Greyhound years ago. I was glad to see it has survived. It is friendly and the deal including breakfast (congratulations to chef and staff) was ideal for me close to public transport also. I visit my sister in aged care in south Canberra monthly and rely on letsbookhotel.com to find affordable accommodation. The hotel was handy to the centre of town so I could walk everywhere I wanted to go and not have to rely on public transport or taxis. Staff in the restaurant time at breakfast were marevellous, especially the big Kiwi guy. He made the people on the bus tours (not me) feel very welcome and at home. I noticed their appreciation. 1 All staff were very helpful and courteous, and Rachel (on Reception) was particularly impressive. 2 The breakfasts were fantastic - congratulations to the kitchen staff and management. 3 Availability of newspapers in the morning was a nice touch. 4 The room was fine and the bed comfortable. 5 Excellent value for money. Car parking was not secure. View onto an apartment block being constructed but overall the hotel was good value for money. Parking was a bit of an issue. The buffet breakfast was great but a microwave on the bench would have allowed my husband to heat his breakfast up as he likes his food really hot. Not a big deal though. Nothing. Having to wait on (being put on hold interminably) and then in the end having to ring 3 times before I could speak to someone in reception re our arrival time. Two clean tissues placed in the top of an empty box of tissues so it looked like a full box of tissues in the bathroom. Lack of parking facilities. The hotel's renovations on the third floor need upgrading - shower fitting inhibits water flow. Some furniture in the room required dusting. Prefer doonas to bedspread and blankets. There is a huge renovation program underway at the moment which will impacts on the accomodation, particularly the parking. The building is tired and this is being addressed. You can sense that staffing is under pressure. have to look for parking space after return from a night out. I didnt like that when i was looking at the pictures on the internet the hotel looked amazing, then when i got there the rooms didnt look anything like the internet. I was disapointed with that but the rooms were still very neat and tidy and very clean so nothing to complain about really!. The bathroom was very inadequate, climbing the bath to get at a shower that barely worked was not ideal for elderly people. I was also upset at being asked for a card number ' in case you trash the room '. What sort of seniors do that? Breakfast on Sunday was excellent, Monday was a different story, no pastries or hash browns and restricted fruit choice. We would stay again as it is very convenient. Parking could be impoved. Could do with a paint job or new doors on the rooms. The only complaint was that some things seeemed to neeed repair. Like the elevator button and the button for flushing the toilet in the room bathroom. Did not detract from my stay though. Some road noise due to main road location.Still using old-style tvs and parking can be in short supply. the old bed spreads. Personal choice: the bed pillows did not suit me. (Too flat)It took me two nights figure out something that did. I was shocked by how expensive the wireless internet was. Does it really cost that much to provide? I would have paid for internet for my whole stay if it had been cheaper. The old analogue TV which didn't work very well at all. Salads served with dinner very poor, lettuce, 3 half tomatoes does not constitute a salad. My own opinion is that there should be a facility to heat up food/milk in a common room or guest room with a microwave. lack of car spaces. nothing. The room was quite small & the TV old. The bathroom fittings need replacing as the tap fell off each time we had a shower. The toilet button was very difficult to push. A new cistern is required. Nothing that I can think of. charges for wifi. The carperting need renewing and the bedside lamps need updating (one globe was blown) besides that everything was great,I'll be back next year. nothing. parking was a problem, you had to park early or you might not get a spot. Noise from building works next door. The building is getting a bit tired.
