We spent 2 nights in El Calafate, wished could have stayed longer to extend the stay at La Cantera. Service was perfect, Giorgina in particular made our stay soo easy, smooth and hassle free that made us happy to be there. Recommendations for excursions were right, breakfast was very good (ask my gf for the homemade cakes), room big and clean. Location was not a big issue as per other reviews: most of the tours come to pick you-up, car service is provided for free between 20-24h and when not av.

The tours organised through the hotel were cheaper than those we had researched online. Thanks!. The rooms were big, the breakfast was good, and the free transport to and from town (about 1km) was nice, as its not the most fun walk up the hill to get home. We had to stay an extra night because of a cancelled flight, and they were nice enough to give us their last available room at the rate that we had paid the previous nights. Everything was O.k: and this is the second time I stay there. I was there with my late husband exactly 2 years ago and we programmed coming back this time with both grandaughters, so I came alone with them and the staff of the hotel was very patient with them and really gave us good time. At the end of my trip it was wonderful to stay in such a clean, pleasant "real" hotel. I was given a lake-view room which was beautiful. Really appreciate the staff that is always ready to do whatever needed to give you a wonderful stay. The food is more than excellent!!!. The staff was absolutely wonderful and so helpful - they made us feel like home! We don´t understand desserts for breakfast so we missed a few staple breakfast items but that is all. The hill into town was easy to negotiate but left us feeling a bit out of the action. We expected this though based on the hotel overview - just thought it relevant to mention for other travellers. The shower had inconsistently hot water. Pillows weren't the best. Although I only had breakfast in the hotel restaurant I would probably not choose to eat dinner there as the eating area is quite secluded with no view at all, a shame as the lake views are so beautiful. The location - 5 blocks uphill from the center in 70 kph winds. Also the shower leaked and flooded part of the floor in our room, L. Argentino. A bit far away from the town center, and the bad way to go. Hill out of the town. Dinner was fair. Would recommend trying restaurants on strip. cracked tile to bathroom floor. Our room was at the wrong side of the hotel (Roca) so whe had a terrible view! The quality of the Wifi is very poor.
