Definitely did not think it was as bad as some of the earlier reviews make out. In terms of value for money and location it was the best place we stayed in Rio de Janiero (private double room with bathroom and really good air conditioning in a convienient location). Staff were friendly. Felt secure and safe (there was a locked gate on the front at night for security). It wasn't noisy.
Staff tried to be helpful.

It was very basic (not complaining but be aware). Breakfast was very basic - just a cheese and ham roll. It was quite dark in the corridors, but I think they were doing some renovation whilst we were there to upgrade.
The AC didn't work and it was very noisy. The WiFi didn't reach our room.
