This is one of the best places we have ever stayed. Andreas and Raphael (co-owners) are really very helpful and friendly, without being over-bearing. They also both speak excellent English too. Our room had huge windows which provided excellent views of Botafago harbour, which is just across the road, complemented by great views of Christ the Reedemer and Centro in the background. The hotel is located in one of Rio's oldest and culturally richest areas - Urca. Located 15 mins. drive from Centro (the CBD) makes it very suitable for quick business trips. At night the boulevard across the road packs a small crowd attending the nearby small bars and restaurants. The place has it all: a small beach at walking distance that you pass on your way to one of Rio's oldest and most infamous restaurants: Bar Urca. The hotel itself is well run - friendly staff and hospitable manager. .
I thoroughly recommend Hotelinho Guest House to anyone wanting a relaxing break in Rio. Urca is a great location, much more peaceful than the rest of Rio, but good for access to either Zona Sul or the Centro. It is also ideal for those who like walking, running or going to the beach. The management/staff at Hotelinho are friendly and helpful and the view (from the rooms at the front or the roof terrace) is one of the best in Rio. The suite I had was large, comfortable and stylishly decorated. I.
The hotel is small and very atmospheric. We had a big antique-decorated room with the view of Corcovado right from the pillow! On daytime you can watch big airplanes fly very low.

Beautiful quiet and safe neighbourhood. Five minutes walking from the charming Praia Vermelha and Pao de Acucar. City buses and taxis go all the time right fro.
The attention received from the staff was great. They really go out of
their way to make one comfortable. The best part of all is the
neighborhood where it is located. Urca, is a residential part of Rio,
with a great view of the bay and of "Corcovado". It is a very
safe neighborhood, you can even walk at night without worries. It also
has it's own personality, different from the touristy beaches. It
feels much more authentic and local and still 5 minutes away from
Copacabana in a bus.
The guesthouse is in a quiet, delightful neighborhood -- a super respite from the rush of the city. We loved escaping "home" to Urca. It is a small, walk-up hotel. Rooms are tiny but immaculate, with a super quiet air-conditioner. Bathroom is simple but adequate. The staff could not be nicer or more accommodating -- they are the star attraction! The view from the breakfast terrace (3 floors up) is not to be missed, and breakfast was fine. We loved it.
We stayed here last 2 days of our trip.its very relaxed, recommend a room with a sea view as it looks out onto the guanabara bay and the corvocado mountain. Its a safe location and close to a few restaurants where you can sit outside on the wall that runs along the shore of urca.very romantic. It is also close to sugarloaf n short distance away from copacabana, botafogo and flamenco. Staff were friendly to.

This hotel is perfectly located in a nice and quiet place, under the pao de uçucar at five minutes by walk of a very nice beach and well-connected to the bus network. The terrasse's view is awesome, and the interior decoration has been tastefully realized.

Friendly and helpful staff made us feel very welcome. Air conditioner, fridge and cable tv in the room. Excellent location between Copacabana and center. The mornig run up to the morro da Urca was the best. The magnificent Praia Vermelha is the best beach in the city if you prefere more peaceful atmosphere than crowded Ipanema or Copacabana.
Loved the antiques, the plunge pool with a view of the bay, the homemade bread and spreads, the balcony in the room.
The hotel backs on to sugar loaf mountain (best viewpoint of Rio from the top) and looks out onto bay and the sailing club. Urca beach is to the right 3 mins walk. Nice, friendly atmosphere with staff and other guests.

Rio; the host could not do enough to assist, without being intrusive; transport is outside the door; shopping centres are close; waking up to find Christo Redempto looking down through my window; Sugar Loaf is three blocks away; five banks in the street for forex; bakery downstairs; laundry close by.
Great view from the room and breakfast terrace to the Guanabara bay and the Christ. Bus stop is just in front of the hotel. Good breakfast. Very friendly staff, they have provided all necessary information about amazing Rio and recommended nice sightseeing excursion. It would be great to stay at this hotel again!.
Location was brilliant, staff were very helpful, we had the best room in the property, and would only recommend this one. It was the suite with a sea view and the view was unbeatable. there was a lovely atmosphere in place. It was like staying with friends.
delicious breakfast with many homemade things. really great view to the christo monument. very safe neighbourhood. near to copacabana. really good organisation for transfers, tours etc. They speak english, german, and portugese.
The staff, specifically Raphael who spoke great English, were extremely accommodating. They helped in every way and bent over backwards to be helpful.

The noise from the street might be bothering if you like to sleep with the open windows.
They don't accept credit-cards so easily, so prepare for cash. Also,
there was some confusion regarding the checkout time and was forced to
pay r$40 more than expected. I think a better communication between the
staff and with guests would have helped here.
As in almost all the hotels around the world, its doors are noisy when used by careless people, it's the only bad point of this one, aspect shared with almost all of them. Nothing but a detail.
Not necessary for people who need silence for sleeping. Hairdryer missing in the room.
To get to Cocabana, Ipanema need to get taxi (15R) or metro - the walk isn't that pleasant as need to go through tunnel.
It gets a bit noisy sometimes when the locals are sitting on the beach wall having a couple of coldies, but it didn't really bother me.

Taking into consideration other types/prices of accommodation available in Rio and discrepancies between what's officially offered and what is actually presented to the guest, this place is quite alright. Windows in the 'deluxe apartment' aren't fitted snugly so when it's chilly outside, it's a bit chilly indoors too. One window in the bedroom doesn't shut at all because of a cable that goes through it.
cooking smells permeate the hotel from the restaurant next door, cramped space and rooms, keys are simple turnkey type, easy to get in rooms.
a lot of stairs and no elevator. difficult to find (no signs or name outside). not comfortable. It is more like a "pousada" than a city hotel.
