Breakfast consists of a continental option, a delicious full English, home made breads and jams, and a vegetarian alternative. Family rooms are available. Pets can also stay, providing you are booking either of the 2 'pet friendly' garden rooms. There is a large, free private car park and free Wi-Fi internet access is available.

The hotel was excellent and certainly lived up to it's description and reviews. Marion and Les (the owners) were very welcoming (the pot of tea on arrival was very much appreciated). We stayed in one of the garden rooms which had recently been refurbished - it was lovely. The hotel generally was clean and tidy and the breakfasts were homecooked and delicious. The owners of The Charterhouse made us feel very welcome. The house is in a great location for Torquay and near to Cockington Country Park. The hotel is great and you feel right at home in a relaxing atmosphere. The breakfast room was very pleasant and the breakfast was excellent. We couldn't have asked for more. We will be booking again.
all reviews » We were made very welcome by Marion althought we arrived slightly later than planned. The offer of tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival was an unexpected surprise and much appreciated. The room was clean and very comfortable with all the usual facilities. It was very nice to have a freshly cooked full English breakfast each morning. Marion and Les were wonderful hosts. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay. We were extremely well looked after and would recommend the Charterhouse to anyone planning to spend time in the Torquay/Torbay area. We hope to return again, with more family members, in the near future. Great place to stay. The gravel was quite slippery. we think that in front of the house could be more lit and the name or number of the property biger than it is now. it because if we arrive at night we can not see or read the name of the place.We have stayed at rather more splendid establishements throughout the world but this hotel had a comfortable relaxed ambience that many grander establishments lack. no, but would have liked alittle more room in bedroom and bathroom. The Charterhouse allows guests to take dogs into some rooms alebit theyare not allowed in the main rooms. Unfortunately my wife has an allergyto dogs but I failed to notice pets were allowed when I made my booking. Long steep gravel drive from car park,no good for high heels or old people and lot of luggage.Difficult with a baby especially in the dark. Shower was cramped and no room with bath available.

Check-In Information: The Charterhouse does not have 24-hour reception facilities, so please provide an estimated time of arrival when booking. Check-in is usually before 18:00. No arrivals after 22:00 are accepted. Please note that the hotel does not accept cats. Pets can only be accommodated in the Small Double Room with Patio and Large Family Room (2 adults + 2 children) with Garden View, and cannot enter the main house. Please inform the property prior to arrival if your are travelling with a pet. Please inform The Charterhouse in advance of your expected arrival time. You can use the Special Requests box when booking, or contact the property directly with the contact details provided in your confirmation.

Information about the area

The hotel is 100 metres from the clean sands of Livermead Beach and the seafront. Approximately 50 metres in the opposite direction are the tree-lined meadows of Cockington Valley Country Park, where meandering walks alongside the babbling brook lead to the delightful village of Cockington, with its 14th century thatched forge. Alternatively, you can travel in style, in one of the horse drawn carriages that run down Cockington Lane and past The Charterhouse on a regular basis.

Whilst picturesque Cockington offers thatched cottages, cream teas and the Manor Court, with all of its local crafts, central Torquay offers theatres, shops and the buzz of a vibrant seaside holiday destination, and are all within walking distance.

The Charterhouse offers versatile accommodation including double rooms, twin rooms and family suites. There are also 2 garden rooms: one double and one large family room, in which well-behaved dogs are permitted.
