Toravaig House is a very nice hotel-guest house. It is located in a very beautiful area. Staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast was very good and tasty with many fish choices.
The staff were extremely friendly and very professional. The food was superb. I had both dinner and breakfast on the five days I stayed. I could not fault any of the meals.
The room and view were amazing as was the lounge area and general decor.

The size of the room. Even though it said it was a cosy double, I did not expect it to be so cosy And the bathroom was tiny. Anyway it was on offer and we paid less than it would normally cost so it was not so bad.

Although the food available was top quality, it was a set menu and was very expensive.
The bedrooms were beautiful but we felt that the hotel lacked an area to relax as guests. There was no bar as such just drinks available in a lounge setting, and the drinks were very expensive. We taxi`d to other eating / drinking establishments nearby and enjoyed a warm local welcome.
No yacht trips on Saturday and weather dependent. Therefore, arriving on Friday for 2 nights had to stay on Monday to do the trip.
No communication between members of staff - they change twice a day and if your request has not been processed before they change no word will be passed on.

price of hotel, especially when they stated what dinner time would you
like. Prices were very expensive. Morning breakfast they charged 9 pound
for 2 cups of tea.

Boasting 2 AA Rosettes, Toravaig’s Iona restaurant offers fine dining, prepared from the freshest locally sourced produce, including game, venison, beef, lamb and seafood. The head chef Andrew Lipp won the Chef Medaille D’Or for Dinner Excellence 2009 at the Scottish Hotel Awards.
A lighter lunch menu is also available or you can join us in the afternoon for tea, coffee and home baking in the lounge next to open log fire.
With soft furnishings, a real log fire and over-sized chairs and sofas, the inviting lounge is great for a pre-dinner drink. Situated on the ground floor, with plenty of natural daylight, the lounge and the restaurant both overlook the gardens and the Sound of Sleat, as well as Knock Castle, which is only a 15-minute walk away.

Let an exclusive sailing trip on Solus na Mara, the hotel’s private yacht, be the highlight of your stay. From April to September, the hotel offers daily sailing trips, which take you either to the Outer Isles or into one of the sea lochs on the mainland. Sailings are weather dependant and the maximum number of guests is limited to 6, so booking is advisable.

Information about the area
Toravaig House is located in the south of the Isle of Skye and there are plenty of wonderful long and short walks in the area, as well as a range of water sports. Local activities include the Clan Donald Centre with its beautiful gardens and the Clan Museum. Anne and Ken and their staff are more than happy to help you plan your day.
During your stay, you can explore the Isle of Skye and take a trip to the north of the Island. See Portree, which is the capital, a lovely fishing town, Staffin, the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing or visit the castle and gardens of the Clan Macleod in Dunvegan. You could also visit Neist Point, the Point of Sleat, the Fairy Glen or the Talisker Distillery and Visitor Centre, where the famous Scotch whisky is made.
Travelling information
By Car:
- By the Skye Bridge, take the A87 to Broadford.
- Turn left to Armadale, Sleat (A851) on approach to Broadford
- Continue towards Armadale for approximnately10 miles.
- The hotel is less than one mile from the Tarskavaig junction on the main A851, on the left-hand side.
By Air:
Inverness: 80 miles
Glasgow: 210 miles
From either airport, drive up to Skye, getting on the A87 at Invergarry. (Drive up at Spean Bridge (from Glasgow), or drive down when you are in Inverness, following Drumnadrochit and and Invermoriston).
By Train:
The nearest railway station is Kyle of Lochalsh. There is a bus from Kyle to Broadford, then you will need to take a taxi.
By Ferry (from Mallaig to Armadale):
The summer ferry runs 6 or 7 times a day (including Sundays although this service is not as frequent) between Mallaig and Armadale on the Isle of Skye. The winter service is limited to 2 journeys a day (Monday to Friday only). Journey time is 25 minutes. Vehicle reservation required. Bikes are carried free of charge.
