Small and very comfortable family hotel in quiet region of city but close to all interesting places in London. Frendly staff, feeling was like at home. We got all necessary "for people first time in London" information from staff. If we travel next time to London we shall stay there for 100%. Everything!! Excellent location, few min walk from Underground really!! Excellent size room, very clean, lovely cooked breakfast.And on our final day even though we checked out at 11, they held our suitcases while we spent our last afternoon sightseeing.

The Castleton Hotel does not have an elevator so can be rather inconvenient when carrying luggage up several flights of stairs. But I already knew what to expect from the reviews.it was a bit rickety,- no lift. Our toilet was not working when we got there and neither was the t.v. Air Conditioning Only Available at there discression. Not what I would call a hearty breakfast plus you cant cook toast for 50 people in one domestic toater and Tv was free view not Sky and many channels unavailable due to poor signal.There is no elevator. The hotel appears to be undergoing some refurbishment, which it is in need of. The communal area carpets are past their use by date. It was also a tiring climb to our 3rd floor room. Not to be undertaken by the elderly or infirm! Take note, there is no lift (Elevator) I'm not sure I would want to spend a week here? But for the odd night or two to use as a base, it's OK.Shower space is small. It was a bit noisy to hear the cracking sound and the "bom bom bom" sound when people walking up and down stairs. I knew the rooms were small, so I was not expecting much. However, a nightstand would help. Also, if you stay on the 4th floor as I did there'll be quite a bit of stairwell climbing every time you go to your room. The breakfast, although included in the price, didn't thrill me - there's not much outside the English breakfast fare (sausages, eggs, etc.). I wish they had some fruits and deli food.There could have been better television reception (the picture was very fuzzy) and also wireless internet in rooms would have been useful. they said there would be coffee making equipment. but i didnt see any.we had downstairs room but there was a lot of noise from people walking up and down the stairs. I had a room on the 4th floor and there was no lift.Quality of food in hotel restaurant. It could do with a lift.i wanted a double room and i got a twin room. Rooms too small. The renovation work was on going and caused some noise. wish the showers where just abit bigger. I felt as though I was in an airplane washroom! Having the one cable for the Internet was rather strange. Why don't they install wifi in the lobby? I would be easier and more convenient.

The Castleton Hotel is your home away from home in London town with 37 cosy rooms and suites. Built as a private home in 1840 we still try to retain that intimate atmosphere.

It is conveniently close to Paddington train station and Lancaster Gate underground station, and near to Hyde Park and Oxford Street.

Information about the area

Just a short walk away from the hotel, Hyde Park is one of the Royal Parks of London and was once the hunting ground for Henry VIII. It is one of the largest parks in London and well known for its Speaker's Corner, the Serpentine Lake and Rotten Row. The park is contiguous with Kensington Gardens, but is technically separate.

Also nearby is Oxford Street, London's busiest shopping street, with a mile of shops ranging from department stores such as John Lewis and DH Evans, to top music shops such as HMV and Virgin, to well known book shops. Selfridges is, however, the most famous shop on the street. It was built by an American, Gordon Selfridge in 1909.

A short tube ride away you will find the British Museum, one of the world's largest and most important museums of human history and culture. The British Museum houses over 7 million objects illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginning to the present. Entrance to the museum is free.

By Train from Paddington station: Exit onto Praed Street and cross the road onto London Street. The hotel is located at the end at the junction with Sussex Gardens. It is a 3 to 4 minute walk from the station. By Air: From Heathrow Airport take the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station and follow the above directions from the station. Or from Gatwick Airport take the Gatwick Express to Victoria station. Then take the yellow Circle underground line from Victoria station to Paddington Station and follow the above directions from the station.
