The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had a free upgrade upon arrival and the room we had was fantastic!. Friendly, Comfortable and informative staff. Small bathroom (no bath).This was booked as a romantic break and was a superior room but there was no material canopy on the 4 poster bed , however all photos on the website of the hotel showed these canopies on each of the beds. The bed was uncomfortable. Our room was a good size and on basement level, good for taking things from the car and you could push the pram right in without stairs, but with basement rooms it is a bit dark also had a totally enclosed en-suite which smelt a little musky, the bedroom was fine though. Also when we moved the bed over to fit the cot you could see it had not hoovered for a while, i'm sure this is common though. Only one bath robe when we arrived but room service did there best to get another to us sooner than expected. Only one small bottle of water between two of us. Room got very hot as it was a very hot day and would have benefitted from a small desk top fan! Could only open one window in order to get any cooler air in.Having read a review on your website from another couple who commented on the fact that the King Size bed was actually two beds wedged together, I went out of my way to phone the hotel to check on this. I was specifically reassured that the style of the bed was common in the industry and that the join between the beds was unnoticeable. This was untrue and as a result, I would not return. price. The basement room was very claustrophobic, the electrical fittings were in a poor state and the room was due for a refurb. The kingsize bed was two singles pushed together and the bath was ok if you were four foot tall.I found a lot of hair blocked water in the drain when I had shower. I had to take the hair out from the drain myself to let water run. We were waken up by our next door guests in the middle of the night. We could hear almost every thing that they did in their bathroom, and bed room. It was not a nice experience.

Information about the area

Edinburgh Castle (2.1 miles / 3.3 km) - This ancient fortress has existed on Castle Hill since the 7th century and has been extensively altered over the centuries. Now a popular visitor attraction and partially occupied by the British Army.

National Gallery of Scotland (2.2 miles / 3.5 km) - An impressive mid-19th century building, home to Scotland's finest collection of European paintings and sculptures from Renaissance through to Post-Impressionist periods.

Royal Botanic Gardens (3.6 miles / 5.8 km) - Founded in 1670 and moved to its current location in 1820, this is the oldest botanic garden in Scotland. It contains examples of peat walls, rock gardens, Chinese hillside, alpines, glasshouses and Scottish heath and woodland gardens.

Rosslyn Chapel (4.5 miles / 7.2 km) - Built in 1446 and recently made famous by 'The Da Vinci Code'. Renown for its ornate beauty of its carvings and links to the Knights Templar. Only 15 minutes from hotel via public bus links.

Travelling information

By car:
- Follow signs for the city by-pass (south).
- Continue on the by-pass and exit at 'Straiton Junction' (A701, City Centre).
- Follow signs for city centre for 2.5 miles (4 km) through various sets of traffic lights.
- You will come to a large junction with 3 lanes. Take middle lane; the hotel is the 6th building on the right hand side.

Parking:
Parking is available on-site at the hotel.

By bus (from Waverley Railway Station, 2.2 miles / 3.5 km):
- Number 7 (to Ferniehill), number 8 (to Royal Infirmary) and number 49 (to Rosewell) can all be caught from North Bridge, which is located on the east side of Waverley Railway Station.
- Number 29 (to Gorebridge) and number 31 (to Bonnyrigg Toll) can both be caught from Princes Street, which is on the north side of Waverley Railway Station.
- For all buses, you will need to get off at 'Craigmillar Park'.

By air (from Edinburgh Airport, 13 miles / 21 km):
- Board the number 100 bus to Waverley Bridge.
