The three rooms taken by our party were excellent, beautifully furnished and extremely comfortable and spacious. The reception areas, lounges and card room were likewise spacious and well-furnished. Real fires in the early Autumn give a special welcome. The staff were anxious to please and very pleasant at all times.The meals were very good with quality ingredients. My husband and I booked here for some quality time together. This place ticked all the boxes. It is a Beautiful classy hotel with professional staff to cater for your every need. We had a superior room with a lake view. It was Large, Beautifful, and tastefully decorated with a huge bathroom. The view we had was also stunning. (Particularly watching the sun set.). The hotel was quiet but close enough to the centre of Bowness if you wanted a lively time, only a short taxi ride away so the best of both worlds. The grounds of the hotel were fabulous. The staff were very friendly efficient and could not do enough for you. the atmosphere was very relxing. It was everything we were looking for. The "old world charm" of this hotel is quite wonderful. set in a fabulous location by the lake with surperb views of the surrounding countryside. The Spanish receptionist went out of his way on every occasion to accommodate us. We brought our Labrador with us and the staff made is so welcome with our dog. Hopefully those things will include the unacceptably intrusive noise of the kitchen extractor fans in room 20 (and possibly nearby rooms too). Some of the beds we've slept in could be more comfortable too. Otherwise, there's very little to complain about. Some areas of the exterior are looking a little tired as is the carpet in the dining room. Whilst the staff were really nice, they were not au fait with the menu at dinner and the lack of detail on the menu itself did nothing to help in this regard. nothing. The hotell need a refreshing, some paint outside and clean between the glasses att the Terras restaurant. Nothing. The portion size of the evening meal was a little too small. Bar prices - staff could tell advise you to buy a bottle instead of a glass. Facility very tired and dated needs refurbishment, but still has that elegant charm! Wait staff need to be able to understand English!. Scaffolding on exterior of hotel. The water in our shower was not hot enough to stand under. The lighting in the bedroom was quite dim and made reading difficult. The extractor fan in the bathroom was very noisy. Ther was nothing i didnt like ,however the outside of the hotel could do with a make over it is looking a little tired as were the rooms. But the downstairs and dining room were lovely. There was nothing negative I could write about it. The only negative is that first impressions count and coming up the drive the hotel is in desperate need of an external paint. No bath (Room 8). could do with a bit of a refurbishment. the staff were not always on the ball at breakfast time. The weather!! Prices at bar not shown, as I was charged £8.50 for a 330ml bottle of Peroni, rather excessive. It is an old hotel which has charm and history. Some restoration is taking place but the electrics need updating ( a number of trailing extension leads were in evidence and the bed was uncomfortable. Needs a refresh. A little tired. Bathrooms looked tired. A little bit musty but is to be expected in an old house. Hotel didn't offer any recreational facilities ie Spa, gym etc. In spite of the same charge, the quality of the room has a difference too much. Scaffolding around the hotel. four star rating but lacking four star facilities. No ambience in the dining restaurant. Menu choice not to standard, and very expensive. My husband ordered a chicken dish, for his main course, and it was a mere half of a breast of chicken. He said he could have gone out and bought 5 whole chickens for the cost of his main meal.
