The rooms were large and of a high standard. The view of the canal and Mailbox complex was superb. The staff were outstanding - posting me on my cashmere scarf I had left in reception when I checked out! We had a great time. The staff were very helpful and friendly, we were able to access our room early and the next day we could store our luggage and the staff were very obliging with our requests.

Oh getting a car to pick parents up the following morning was a challenge ( not your fault - the road was closed ! ). Open buffet style kitchen area means cooking odours stick to your clothes. only the fact that the cards to get in the door did not work very easily. difficult to locate. doors play up with swipe cards terribly!. not every single member of staff spoke good English. Difficult to find on foot - not all the lifts went to Floor 7 in The Mailbox and there was obvious signage on Floor 7. There is no air conditioning and the temperature in the building was uncomfortable, although a fan is provided in all rooms. Parking in the mail box car park is approximately £18.00 per night it's a shame the hotel does not offer reduction on this. Car parking at The Mail Box was very expensive. Staff were quite abrupt, almost rude in some places. Swipe cards didn't open rooms very easily - quite hard work.The should have mini bar service in the rooms and I would haveprefered to have paid my bill at the end, rather than everytime Iordered room service. Had to wait for a long time till the night porter let us in the hotel. The fact that the hotel didn't have a deal with the carpark for staying customers. bar was not open for residents late.Throughout the whole evening of our stay there was a continuous creaking noise emmiting from the ceiling, the only way I could desicribe this noise would be to imagine an old wooden sailing vessel creaking. This kept us awake alot through out the night and awoke us in the early hours as well. Price of bar drinks!. The price was maybe a bit more than I wanted to pay. Initial problem with the key card for the room, but this was quickly rectified by the staff. No complimentary biscuits with the teas and coffee!. Additional costs of Parking and Breakfast are expensive. the sound from the pub outsides..bed very soft. did not realise no bath in room. bed was a standard double, which is small compared with most hotels I've stayed in, but it wouldn't put me off staying there again. No minibar, which makes getting a drink less convenient, again, wouldn't make me choose somewhere else. Some areas could be updated. Some carpets were torn and wallpaper peeling. Predominantly in public corridors and by lifts.Late check-in time - 2.00 pm. The TV did not work and we did not have bath towels. When we requested them we were given bath mats so had to request again. The residents bar did not remain open for my party. Small double bed. Bare bed base without linens. Staff efficient but cold. Soulless, corporate feel. Lack of luxury for a four-star. No complementary shampoo etc--soap only. No wireless Internet; wired only. No bath, only a shower.
