The family-run Ye Olde Fighting Cocks is set beside the Kent estuary in the picturesque village of Arnside, officially named an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The beer garden boasts views of the Lake District’s mountains and the estuary, as well as offering free on-site parking. Most of the bedrooms offer views across the Kent estuary and the mountains within the Lake District. The Fighting Cocks’ on-site bar features a wood-burning fireplace and offers a variety of traditional beers, lagers and wines. There are 2 on-site restaurants serving traditional home-cooked food. There is a quiz and bingo night on Wednesdays, a Sky/BT Sports area showing live action, and even a singer on Saturday nights. Arnside Rail Station is just 350 meters from the property and junction 35 of the M6 is less than 8 miles away. The start of the Lake District National Park is just a 5 minute train journey.

The owners were both extremely helpful and friendly. We were contacted by phone a week before arrival to confirm that our requests for our Ruby Anniversary weekend had been met. Our room was just as the owner described and had views to die for. The food was very good, speedily prepared and well presented. The entire staff were very attentive and eager to please. all reviews » Warm welcome from the staff and landlord. Bar staff, waiters seemed part of a warm team enjoying their jobs. The pub/hotel is pet friendly. We had our medium sized, well-behaved dog in the bedroom, and in breakfast with us one day. The waiter helped with a bowl for leftovers/water. The hotel is in a great location overlooking the tidal Kent estuary. Good walks nearby, Leighton Moss RSPB reserve, regular train service to local stations north and south. Having stayed here several times over the past few years , I was interested to discover what the new owners had done to the place. They have spent a lot of time and effort ( and money !) in creating a great little getaway on the edge of the South Lakes. Great rooms with charm and breathtaking views..Super food . You will find a warm welcome at Ye Olde Fighting Cocks and I have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful place to anyone..Enjoy !. I liked the little extra touches provided by the hotel.EG in my room I had a bay window overlooking the Bay and there was a pair of binoculars supplied for my use should I have wished to use them. All staff were welcoming on arrival. Proprieters Tony and Jeannette were very friendly when we also met them on the Saturday evening. The hotel is also very convenient for the train station as we used it to travel to Cartmel for the races. The friendliness of all of the staff but most of all the way in which we were treated by Tony who upgraded us on arrival to a gorgeous room with a fantastic view of the estuary. He even gave us information on the train times to local areas. The entertainment was great. To end it we had a fine English breakfast. I will definitely go again and next time I will take my daughter and son in law. A very enjoyable stay indeed. Room was recently decorated and very tastefully. We arrived too late for an evening meal but the full english breakfast was great. Well done - we will be back!. What's not to like, we met up with family as it was a central location for everyone. We were made to feel very welcome by everyone, staff and locals alike. Tony and Jeanette run a lovely establishment and they have fabulous people working for them. The room was lovely, the views gorgeous, the food was to die for, what a chef. We had a wonderful time and would certainly return to the Fighting Cocks. The room that we had at a very reasonable discount was really good, clean and tidy with fantastic views.The staff were very friendly and helpful.The location is second to none.Arnside is a very picturesque village close to all the wonders of the Lake district. Breakfasts are good and though there is no menu the cook is very happy to provide any combination. I recommend the scrambled eggs. ALL the staff were REALLY friendly and made a special effort to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. The rooms were even better than we had expected; very comfortable with tasteful furnishings and superb views. The food was excellent too, with both the evening meal and (bespoke vegetarian) breakfast proving big hits with our family. Our room White Creek was lovely with a nice big four poster bed and very clean enuite facilities that looked like they were new. The view over the estuary was pleasant. Host Andrew and Joanne were charming, and ensured that we were happy during our stay. Breakfast was plenty and we left as very happy people :-). We had a really warm welcome and had a lovely stay. The bed was comfy with a great view.We had great help from one member of staff when we couldnt get the padlock off our case he took it away and brought it back sorted thankyou. Only being there for a short time, would certainly stay for longer next time. The hotel provide dressing gowns, that should have been a nice touch, but they didn't look very appealing, if something like this is provided it should look and smell fresh. We stayed 3 nights and Jays restaurant wasn't open once though pub food was available at reasonable pub food prices until 1900 hrs. I wasn't impressed with the food we were presented with on the first evening and we ate elsewhere for the rest of our stay. In common with other reviewers, we were disappointed by the beer garden. It feels churlish to criticize a relatively unimportant thing . . . but, equally, it would be a fairly easy thing to put right. What a great location though!. Nothing it was all great!. We stayed in the Grisedale room which was very nice, our only complaint was the shower. The shower head itself was caked in limescale which reduced the flow to a trickle and it was also held together with black tape. We couldn't find anything to dislike about it. The breakfast was very early. 7.30-8.30. Im sure theres a reason its so early but I was eating in my sleep. It was worth getting up at that time though. Help yourself toast yogurts cereal teas coffees fresh juice and a full brekki. Brill. Nothing. The weather - it was the weekend of 'the' storm that hit the uk. No negatives here!. As an asthma sufferer the excessive use air spray on the stairs caused me considerable difficulties until it dissipated. Off road parking can be a little difficult. The menu could have been a little more imaginative. En-suite bathroom door did not close properly. Not too important after 40+ years of married life but could be embarrassing for others. nothing. Nothing to dislike. shelf over wash basin. The weather!!. Housekeepers ignoring request for non-feather bedding. Nothing really wanted to stay bit longer . N/a. I would have like some fruit at breakfast. didn't stop long enough.. Room needed a little TLC, but at the modest price you can't really argue. Nothing. The room really was too small for comfort, and there was barely space enough to move in the shower room. Nowhere to eat in Arnside after 9p.m. We went to The Albion at 20.15, where food was advertised as served until 21.00, to be told they had stopped making food as it had been busy due to the hot weather. Not impressed!!. Wi fi was iffy. Not staying longer.
