My friend g and I went to visit friends, in the 1st week of December over the double bank holidays. We have both been to Madrid before. G speaks some Spanish, I don'T.We booked separately. I had a single room + ensuite shower, washbasin but no toilet. He had a twin bed room with washbasin but no toilet or shower. We found Roberto Rodriguez and his son and other staff courteous and very very helpful, including taking messages The location is very very accessible, it is close to several Metro sta.
all reviews » Location is fantastic. WiFi in room was very welcome and unexpected in a small pension like this one. The hosts, husband and wife, spoke only Spanish but were very friendly and helpful. The decor of this pension is a jump back in time by at least 50 years, if you like that sort of thing (which I did). Owner friendly not speaking English, very close to metro station sol. Very good location and very clean. Very cheap :). Very friendly staff and nice location just near the central square in Madrid. Clean and safe Big beds, internet, and rooms hot, for inverno. Location was good, that is the only redeeming feature. We arrived during a cold spell and were disappointed by the heating although Roberto did do something about this when we told him. We felt he could have provided larger towels. New guests should be advised that Roberto & staff speak very little English, breakfast is not provided, you have to hand your key in whenever you go out, so it is perhaps more geared to those who are self sufficient and not expecting luxury But excellent value!. Although the WiFi is there, the signal is very poor throughout the big apartment. There are no Air Cond or even Fan on the rooms. Madrid is very hot place. It is impossible to survive in this way. Bed was very uncomfortable, pillow was hard as a rock. noisy club nearby - not a quiet sleep! not given a key- so must disturb owner. sure i booked ensuite - sink only!. While the bed was adequate the rest of the facilities were very old and the room was not inviting. Although a shower and washbasin was in the room the toilet was shared, not so bad except cigarette buts were floating in the toilet bowl leaving an uncleanly impression. The place looked run down. I can find a better place for the same price. Access at any time requires ringing the front door bell and being let in. Only allowed in once during the night. Felt a little trapped and lacking freedom. Shared toilet didn't flush well and was near office.
