Miguel the owner - couldn't have been more friendly or helpful, in fact all the staff without exception were friendly and welcoming. The interior design of the place is to my tastes. Nice size room, fantastic shower - one of the best I've had in an hotel! Good location, great for museums and retiro, bit of a walk to the northern side of the old town but after some of the meals we had the walk was welcome later at night and the distance never bothered us - we didn't use the metro once. The shower is very good, the breakfast included is quite nice, the 24 h coffee and tea, the location, the kindness of the staff and the design make this hotel a great choice in Madrid. If you like late breakfasts, Artrip let you eat until noon... It is a 3 minute walk from the Lavapies Metro Station and the Carrefour market, and a 10 minute walk from Via del Prado and Atocha train Station. When I told her that we should stay in this hotel due to many positive feedback, she was not too sure. We were both very happy with our stay. The staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful. The breakfast downstairs was beyond delicious. The location is fantastic, because one is walking distance from the museums, and in the middle of Lavapiedes, a lively neighborhood. Miguel is the perfect host, passionate about his hotel his city and country. He offered excellent advice on places to go, without him we would have never got to Toledo ! His staff are his mirror image, nothing is too much bother for the staff at Artrip. I would go again and recommend to anybody who is going to Madrid. The renovation on the hotel is excellent as is the breakfast good value at 4euros. This has been our favorite hotel whilst travelling this year....it reminds us of a smaller Mama Shelter. The staff are delightful and very helpful... the location is perfect for walking anywhere in central Madrid... there are plenty of bars and restaurants nearby... the rooms are gorgeous and very comfortable...breakfast is included and just right for us...We will be coming back. Noise from water pipes in the room we were in meant we needed ear plugs. We were on 1st floor, I imagine being higher up would mean less noise. Street noise wasn't a problem even though we were above the entrance. We liked everything. Do not expect a high style area around the hotel but it is not dangerous. The pillows could be a little smaller particularly if you are small. Wi-Fi connection was limited in our hotel room. My wife walked around inside our room with her Ipad/ laptop to find connection. I loved it all. This is my first review this year where I can't think of anything I didn't like. The only down point about the hotel is how the en suite toilets in the rooms are behind a frosted door off the main room - it literally left nothing to the imagination which somewhat spoiled the mood at times!. The area round Lavapies station seemed rough to us, as outsiders and we chose to rather come back later on at night via the main roads. Only problem we had was with noise within the hotel eg plumbing from adjoining rooms and guests from upper floor moving around their room. However we are light sleepers and this may not be a problem for everyone. We had a very difficult time finding the hotel but that might have been due to inadequate preparation on our part. Definately not a car friendly destination with narrow one way streets and very tight parking. There wasn't a lot of variety in the breakfast selection. Not a deal breaker but the room's floor could be a bit cleaner. Nothing. Walking into the room you are in the bathroom. Nothing. A few more hooks in the rooms would have been helpful. The floor covering, but then I don't like oil cloth. A little hard to find. Walking distance to train is further than most have said. 20-25 minute bumpy walk, and you'll ruin luggage wheels if you try it with luggage!. Nothing. The neighbourhood is still run down and unpleasant at night. It is full of dodgy looking people selling soft drugs. An irritation rather than a danger but you don't get this in barrio Salamanca for example which is much nicer and costs about the same. Nothing. Walls were thin, luckily we didn't have neighbors and didn't notice until our last night, but then it was very noisy. Can't think of anything. The area was a little rough around the edges but within walking distance of all the more popular areas, and the train station was very close by. Nothing. Nothing. The glass door in the room 501a make the passage narrow, especially when someone sit in front of the desk. No negatives!. Only one mirror in the entire room. Convient for Atocha station and Reina Sophia Museum,but not near much else. Not sure everyone would like bathroom arrangement - toilet and shower behind glass doors, washbasin in room. No drawers. Breakfast a bit boring. The Lavapies area is a bit dodgy, but improving I suspect. Toilet area could use ventilation. The frosted glass doors on the shower and toilet were not ideal in the triple room. Nothing.
