The special treats at night by closing the curtains, open of beds and chocolates were very special and a nice touch. The design and re-use of an old building is such a clever idea and most pleasing to the eye. The chef at breakfast as well as supper and presentation was excellent. Overall, everyone was friendly and efficient. The view was amazing as well. In fact, we would like to rebook at the end of April again.
all reviews » The venue is situated at the habour, so we could view the activities of the harbour which was interesting. The venue is also very peaceful and quite, so if you want to relax, away from the "city in the city", this is ideal. We also loved the lounge area outside in the courtyard, so if you want to have your meal or drinks outside the restaurant, it makes it an excellent option. Staff very friendly and helpful, our aircon didnt work so they upgraded us to another room, we were very impressed as we had our small grandson with us and even the breakfast was good. We are definetly returning as we are regular vistors to Durban and the south beach has had a major revamp, we were so impressed. I really enjoy my stays in docklands hotel being for my business trip and all the workers also friendly and their also hospitality, nice place to visit, docklands hotel is the best to be anytime am coming to Durban I can't wait to lounge in docklands hotel so neat, clean, i gives docklands excellent. I felt safe as I walked from the hotel to Ushaka. The staff was polite nd friendly. Its peaceful no noise. I'm having a new baby soon nd considering staying there before I give birth nd after baby is born. I'm from Eastern Cape nd I think the peace nd quite will be just great for a new born baby. We were concerned about the location since it is near to the docks but the security is super with camera's in the street - this area of Durban has really been cleaned up and I was super impressed - we felt safe enough to walk in the streets - I will definitely stay here again. I loved the cleanliness, the design, friendly staff, we could not really venture through the common areas as they were preparing for the comrades marathon runners, but we will be back to sample the foods and any other facilities that they have to offer. walking distance to ushaka and the kids loved the walk. saved money on parking fees at the park. the staff was great with assisting with an extra bed and a sick child. very family friendly and will stay there on my next Durban trip. We really appreciated the staff based for their constant attention. The facilities were clean, spacious room and the hotel is just perfcetly located when you are a tourist in Durban that makes it close to all main attractions. We arrived at the hotel at 12h00 from a MSC cruise and we were made very welcome and booked us in early without a problem. Breakfast staff were fantastic and really looked after us as well as the pleasant staff at reception. It is a very couzy place and really great if u want to go and relax.the people where very friendly and helpfull.The breackfast was fantastic.i really loved the rooms.The staff are very well trained.The place is just great. The staff attitude is friendly and welcoming. The staff had a good listening skills. It is quiet, no noise at night. The hotel is clean. It is safe and a good free parking. Facility is affordable. The decor is very contemporary and different. The restaurant offered excellent dishes which were very well presented. The choclate coated Almond Rocks left on the bed at night were excellent. the general manager took notice of our bad experiences and offered to accommodate us at a future date.... gratis .....the majority of staff were pleasant and polite. We where on the 3rd floor, someone on the 4th floor directly above us puked into our balcony in the early hours of the morning, well we did hear a thing but only saw it in the morning, so perhaps stricter control on the type of guest to the hotel. If bad behaviour is noted, then hey should be expelled immediately to uphold the name and rating of the hotel. Non above. The music in the restaurant was definitely focused at a younger age group - but they did put it softer when we requested .. not necessarily a down side. 6 - rated 3 because the website has the stunning picture of the front of the Hotel, but this area was cordoned off, we entered from the back of the building through the carpark. Certain rooms - the shower are too small- water goes all over the place. nothing. When you go out late at night the main door is closed and you have to awake staff to open for you on your way out and in. You have to knock from outside. It was kind of awkward to live that experience. It could be easier if the main door could be accessed in somehow easily by the guests themeselves. have to get figured out. Leaving the following day. When in reception i was a bit disturbed by a smell airfreshener like perfume. During the breakfast i noticed the bird which came now and again to feed itself with the food there. I also notice a fly on one of the big spoon that we use to dish our food. Otherwise everything was very good, i even took the decision to use your hotel often since it is affordable. The check out time is a too early maybe change from 10 to 12. The towel hooks and rails, although very modern in design, were not practical and were falling off the wall. The wi-fi connection continually failed. the picture on the booking site as above right bore no resemblance to the actual hotel...no water pressure on several occasions...bad experience in the restuarant one dinner night ...location a bit off putting. The walls are drywalls, not very private as our neighbour was in and out all night. I booked a standard room for 2 persons , was not told it doesn't come with a double or queen size bed , there are no wardrobes or built in cupboards , yet I paid R697 for a night ?????. I'm definely NOT sure if the stench emanating from the drainage system of the hotel can be picked up from other hotel rooms BUT the room 3301 where I got checked into can be quite disturbing, it is the kind of smell that comes and goes. Perhaps an overhauling is necessary otherwise Docklands Hotel is my Perfect Destination. Showers had no showerdoors the room got messy everything after shower. The security guard at the gate is very casual such that people have free access into the hotel car parking. I drove in and out of the hotel without being checked, that said to me anyone can drive out with any car without being checked. Wedding was on saturday night, the rooms were the music came from, and the sunday morning church service need to be sound proofed. i did not like the look of the parking but i guess its all about heritage sites. Nothing at all. The hotel restaurant had a very limited menu. When we got there our room we were given was upside down with paint everywhere, walls scrapped down and paint products all over the bed. the old biuldings around the place, not cool either be demolished or painted - the Government or Landlord can do that. The aircon on the bottom floor of the suite was out of order. it is expected for staff to know which rooms are occupied, although the house keeping seem to be unsure and it was disturbing. the shower design could be improve a little(the drain is very slow and the water kept escaping to the room. Carpert needs to be cleaned. The place outside looks very scary. When we entered the parking we were considering not even going in as it looked really dodgi, until we entered inside the hotel to see a total different view inside. So if the owners can fix the hotel outside, Im sure they will attract even more business. Renovations going on at the place are somehow inconviniencing. They forgot to arrange the taxi to get me at the airport. No bar fridge in room, bar closes too early on a saturday night. Try to serve dinner in future. There was no ice available for our drinks but after a little bit of persuasion to the manager on duty, he sent out for ice. Thank you. my husband had paid cash and they did not receipt him and then contacted us to say we did not pay a day later, they then did a check up and later discovered that because of a computer problem, the payment wasnt reflecting, they need to be more vigilant in these situations to avoid insulting guests in such a manner. N/A. could not get a twin room. Sewage stench - horrific! So unpleasant, it would make me have second thoughts about going back. The surroundings and outside view are very off putting. Would not draw passing trade easily as you only realise how pleasant it is once inside the hotel!. Noise from the docs at night - service of the restaurant staff. Carpets dirty and stained - not goof impression. the damp smell of carpets washed and not properly dried.
