Guests at Jam Hostel Kyoto Gion can sleep in a bunk in a shared dormitory-style room or choose a simple private room with a Double bed or a bunk bed. Rooms do not have a TV.

The location could not be more perfect!!!! Shopping, transportation and major tourist attractions right at your doorstep. The rooms and common areas are small but clean and comfortable. The bathroom facilities are limited, but in great condition, a very homely feel. Because the hostel is small, there was never really a long line to use the shower or bathroom.The staff were nice and courteous, even though somewhat disorganized at check-in. All in all, a positive experience, and a great place to. all reviews »
The hostel was small, quiet and comfortable. It is right in the heart of
the Gion district, which is a beautiful area to wander around. Located
right next to a subway exit, and has a bus stop across the road. The
staff were fantastic, and very able to provide english maps and give
recommendations of places to visit and the best way to get there. Rooms
don't have an ensuite, but the shared showers are good. The bed was
comfortable and the heater worked well. Wireless internet was free and
worked.
I had the most wonderful time at Jam. The people there are incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are lovely and the beds very comfy. The location is fantastic for site seeing and just wandering about, i didnt realize this before i booked, but it is right on the river. A big bonus is the top notch sake bar down stairs where you feel very cool and sophisticated, and can always find a friend. I will definately be returning to this one. Thank you Jam hostel.
Friendly and kind service. There are English speaking staff there as well. The bar/ reception area is a really nice place to chill. The manager know her stuff and they are so helpful with recommending something from their menu based on what you feel like having. The room at the hostel is really clean too and they also allowed us to leave our luggage at the hostel after we checked out for a couple of hours.
The staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions that I had. The atmosphere at the hostel is great, and hanging out at the sake bar before going out was a great way to start the night. They have an excellent sake variety from different regions and they are knowledgeable about each sake. The hostel was extremely clean and the beds were comfortable and long enough for my height.

- Very close to subways and specially bus stations.
- You can easily walk to some touristic spots such as the famous Gion corner, Chion-in Temple, and for shopping, 5 min walk to Shijo Kawaramachi station.
Outstanding location, close to the subway and handy for buses and other trains, and an easy walk to some of the sights and the bars and restaurants in Shijo and Kiyamachi-dori.
Top value! And the sake bar downstairs is good for socialising at.
The location of this hostel is amazing!!! Close to many tea houses and temples. Across the bridge is many bars and restaurants. The value for money is amazing! The staff speak English and the beds are so comfy its like sleeping on a cloud.

Great location, nearby the station, buses, etc. Free wi-fi and lockers available in dormitories, friendly staff at the reception desk / sake bar downstairs. A hostel definitely worth checking while staying in Kyoto. I will be back :).
Room was clean, bathroom was also pretty clean. But the location is awesome. I think if you are looking for just a place to sleep and go sightseeing at day and hang out in Gion at nights, this should be the best deal.
Incredible place to stay. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The sake bar downstairs is a graeat place to meet with fellow travelers or talk with locals. Couldn't have had a better time there.
The Sake Bar. There are tons in Kyoto but it's nice to know we have one downstairs. The location and accessibility are two prime reasons for anyone to stay here! Hip staff. Great selection of music.
The rooms were clean, staff were friendly and helpful. It was situated in a great location, a 5min walk from Kawaramachi and our balcony had river views. Facilities were also clean and well managed.

The location is incredible. Right in the heart of the entertainment district and incredibly easy to get to from the station. The staff is incredible. I cannot say enough good things.
The staff were really nice and helpful. The rooms are big and really clean. Location is super, too. I really enjoy my stay there. I can highly recommend this hostel!!!.

The location was excellent, in the middle of the old town, close to all amenities. Also, we liked the fact that they've got a sake bar!.

Reception isn't open between 12pm and 3pm, so if arriving at that
time of day you can't drop your bags off and go sight seeing.
There were only 2 showers in the entire hostel but I did not ever have to wait to take a shower and the hostel was almost fully booked.
Would be nice to have a kitchen available for use, but was not a problem with cheap eateries nearby.
Washer/dryer did not work well (very minor problem).
- The lavatory and showers are on 3F only.
- Not very convenient if you're traveling with big suitcases.
(But luckily, we were given a given a room on 2F. So it was fine for us to carry our luggages to one floor.).
The common room is tiny, with just a table and a fridge, so you won't be cooking for yourself. That there are only two showers might be a problem at busier times.

The only thing that brought it down was the 'lounge' which was a small room with a table in it. This wasn;t too much of a worry since I was there to see Kyoto.

The space was really cramped. not enough room to move in... though it didnt really matter that much as there was lots to see and do in Kyoto. There were only 2 showers as well.

Luggage storing - if you came too early to check in, luggage will be left laying on the floor next to the bar, without any label and freely accessible to anyone.

I think I am getting to old for eight people rooms. I couldn't sleep so well here, because people where comming in late und getting up early.

4 bed female dormitory way too small ! this should be a twin room. You can hardly place your bags.

It's a small house and you sleep at the room. From the hostel to shinjuku is around a 1 hour!.
