The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located about 10 -12 min walk from Florence SMN train station. The hotel is on the third floor of the building without elevator, but the owner has helped with our luggage, so it was not an issue at all. Very clean and quiet. The breakfast selection is very good (serials, fruits, milk, coffee (prepared fresh per your request), sweets, cold cuts, yogurt, and fruit juice). The breakfast room has an astonishing view of Florence roof.
all reviews » The Locanda dei Guelfi proved to be a good choice for us and we enjoyed our stay there. You never know quite what to expect even if you have read the reviews before you go. We had no difficulty in finding the hotel and the steps up to the third floor were not an issue for us although I can see that it might be a problem for some. The location is excellent although the area is quite busy but this was not a problem for us. The room and facilities were very clean and the bed was very comfortable. . Very close to the train station, however it might be tedious to carry huge luggage. It's just about 10 min. Walk from the train station. Staff is very friendly and the rooms were bigger and comfortable. Forget about asking directions to the front desk or any other local Italian for that matter (they are all rude), easiest way to get to this hotel is to come out of the Roma Termini train station and cross the street and get to McDonalds right across the street. Follow the inner lane of McDonalds. The hotel was spotlessly clean. I had a large room which was so comfortable and very stylishly decorated with beautiful pieces of furniture. I can't say enough good things about the staff. I had a booked tour of Tuscany for which I had to be at the station at 8am. Breakfast at the Locanda dei Guelfi started at that time, but Percy offered to have breakfast ready for me before so I could eat something before going away. On my last day I was allowed to take the room key, as there was nobody booke. Locanda Dei Guelfi, located on the third floor of a building formerly owned by the Medici dynasty, is run by a very friendly, helpful couple. There is no elevator, but staff is quick to answer when you buzz the intercom, and your luggage is carried upstairs for you. The room is nicely appointed and the comfortable bed is finished with nice linens and pillows. The entire hotel is very clean and welcoming. A nice buffet breakfast is offered. There is a quirky rooftop terrace. I would definitely b. In a great location 10mins walk to the station or Duomo.Percy and his family were perfect hosts and even prepared breakfast early for us.Thank you.The breakfast room has a gorgeous view of the Duomo as does the fab little rooftop terrace.Rooms are lovely and the bed very comfortable.The stairs are a challenge if you have very heavy luggage or are unfit...I'm sure Percy would help if you needed it though.All in all a charming little place in a great location. Very helpful and friendly staff. Hotel is small, but room was comfortable and spacious for 2. The building is very old and historic but bathroom although small was functional . Air conditioning worked well as did wifi. Excellent location - easy walking distance to all the major sights in florence. A very good value for the city. All is the best. The reception is very good. Although there is no elevator, the receptionist will help you downstairs when your arrival. There is a smart kitchen in the room, which make the room warm and cozy. There is a power-driven scuttle on. The platform on the roof is comfortable. Was quiet even though streets seemed busy. The location was close to the train station, markets and other sites. The breakfast and the view from the roof were great. The beds were comfortable and there was n street noise. A very private, cosy and relaxing atmosphere with a friendly and supportive staff managed by Percy, and a handy location close to all major attractions in the historic city centre. It was very close to Attraction and the staff are very co-operative. Best for family of 4 persons. Very good situation, between Santa Maria Novella Station and the Duomo (even though the streets surrounding might appear a bit insecure by night). The temperature of the hot water could have been better at times. It is on the 4th floor so there is quite a bit of stair climbing without any elevators. Although the location is very convenient and within walking distance from the Duomo and the train station, travelling on my own, I did not feel entirely safe when returning from dinner at night. Having said that, if you approach it from Via Nazionale, it felt a lot safer!. The sign for the hotel is not really obvious, but that is not a problem as the building number is easy to find, and the staff is quick to answer and let you in when you buzz the intercom. Perhaps the sign could be bigger outside to make the property to spot?. You have to walk up several flights of stairs to get to the hotel. Staff was helpful with luggage. everything was perfect. The 3 flights of steps as our bags were heavy at the end of our trip,but Percy helped us up with our bags ,. Up 3 flights of stairs. Our bathroom, although private, was outside our room. The neighborhood not great, although not threatening, just a bit outside the areas of interest. The AC made some wierd noises and was a little problem. Water pressure not great. Three flights of stairs, but they have a porter to help with luggage. No lifts. In modern days there is necessary of internet, which was not there in service apartment. sometimes it was not enough hot water in bathroom. The stairs up to the apartment. It would be in out of the question for older people to stay there. just that we need to take our luggage up to 3 floor. If you were very unfit, the stairs may prove annoying but the roof top view was a highlight of our visit. The shower arrangement was a bit awkward, the water tended to spray all over the floor.Due to the confined space in the bathroom the shower was a free standing type next to the toilet (Usually seen on boats) I would prefer to do without the bidet and have a proper shower cubicle. No lift. fair breakfast, cold water in the morning. Nothing. Does not have lift as it is a traditional building. Breakfast could have had more healthy options. No elevator and the hotel lies at the the third floor. The breakfast is rather basic. All in all, the fare is quite expensive for the value of the service... But it's Florence. no elevator....terrible bathroom...
