The staff were extremely helpful and they couldn't do enough for us. Especially the night porter with the late bar. The hotel is in a great location and the food in the hotel is lovely. Our stay here was excellent. The room was extremely comfortable and clean, and all our needs were met. We were very happy with what we got for the amount of money we spent.the staff were very helpful and polite the room was very comfortable and i would recommend this hotel to my family and friends.

Very bad nights sleep.Supposed to be a Delux Double room but room was very small. Poor selection on TV.bed. Heating was way too high in bedroom. The central location of the hotel on the main junction, along with the lovely original single-glazed windows and the popularity of Kilkenny as hen and stag party capital of Ireland means that I got no sleep during my night's stay. The bathroom was very cozy, but the bedroom was very cold.I will recommend Hibernian for food and drink, but in future I will stay on the outskirts of the city. Was very unhappy with the room. I expected it to be a lot bigger and was quite shocked when I saw how much bigger a twin room was (and for the same price), I would have preferred the twin. Most hotels provide tea making facilities and at least two small bottles of water and these were unavailable. The room was extremely stuffy and hot, something really needs to be done about that in the future. There was no kettle in the bedroom - although complementary tea and coffee was available on request, I would have prefered my own kettle in the room to make it myself. The room was very hot and I couldn't see how to turn off the radiator. The window could be opened but led out onto busy street, where music from nearby nightclub could be heard. They do not have tea or coffee making facilites in the room. Very inconvenient. Have not stayed in hotel for ages without this availibility. The business center is a joke - computer didn't work, then when theyfixed it , the printer didn't work and all instructions were inGerman.... And it was very dusty. Parking facilities-have to pay for hours between 12 and 6 yourself, uncomfortable bed.

The impressive Victorian building was erected in the mid-19th century, when it served as a home to the Hackett family. Members of this family include Dr. Hackett, a friend and supporter of Charles Stuart Parnell during the Land Wars of the 1880s, acclaimed biographer Francis Hackett (1883-1962) and his sister, the novelist Frances Hackett (1884-1963).

In 1901, the property was leased to the Hibernian Bank, who rebuilt and extended the structure over the next 4 years. When the Hibernian Bank was subsumed into the Bank of Ireland during the 1960s, the building was acquired by the Avonmore Food Group. The present owners purchased the property in 1998 and, following an extensive renovation of the building, the Hibernian Hotel opened its doors in May 2000.
