If you want to experience an intimate an old world Hungarian expereience then the Kalmar Panzio is the place to stay. Forget the sterile comforts of the IBIS and other hotels. The host of the Kalmar is Eztar she is friendly and creates a wonderful atmosphere for visitors with her intimate knowlege of Hungarian culture. The Kalmar is value for money where you get wonderful old world room with high ceilings and modern comforts. The breakfast in the morning is another highlight.
all reviews » We had a wonderful stay at Kalmar Pensio. It is a beautiful 120 year old mansion comverted into a Pension in an excellent location. It is very near the Chain Bridge in Budapest, right behind the Gellert Baths and so easily accessible to all major sightseeing venues yet in a residential area. The Manager, Ester made us very welcome and was very informative and helpful. We had a huge room with a lovely balcony overlooking the garden and a huge bathroom! What more could you ask for?!. A very special, unique place with historic flair for travellers who prefer accomodations with character to mainstream hotels. Athmosphere is quite family like, breakfast on common big table with original hungarian porcelain. The host is very cooperative and flexibel. Location next to Gellert bath, Freedom bridge and Markthall is very central but nevertheless calm and idyllic. Public transport to the city and to Kelleti train station is near and good. Very nice, quiet hotel surrounded by beautifull garden, with very helpfull and frieldly owners. Good breakfast, old-fashioned but very nice looking tableware. Parking very near (2000 huf - around 7 eur per day). Great localization - just at the Gellert Hill. Great spacious rooms, old mansion style, very friendly hotel owner. Overall feeling is very nice and relaxing. Some kitchen facilities in a room also come very handy. Good value for money, will absolutely recommend. breakfast really good 400m from thermal spa gellert personal was nice- the owner esztel was really helpfull. The stuff was very friendly they had given me all recommendation I needed. Best location! Best price!. Pretty everything. The room in the souterrain was great - really big, the bed was comfortable and I felt like being in 1900. The breakfast room was gorgeous too. I think there is no better area to live, because it is very green and quiet, a neighbourhood of stately mansions. And you can reach the city in a few minutes by feet. Great location! Helpful owner. I see no negatives. I would recommend this hotel for its postion to all the sights and its old world charm that dates back to 1912. . no parking by the hotel, you can park for 13 euros 350m but i would rather choose another hotel with parking - 1000 of stairs, now warning tho. I was there with granny, but this hotel had 1000 stairs and there was no warning, it wa s really difficult. Too many stairs, but it's whole Buda problem. The bathroom in the souterrain is an imposition! You have no chance to turn arround. I am glad that the other room was unrented - otherwise I would have had to share this atomic bathroom. The breakfast buffet has no wide range, but normally I don't eat in the morning - so it was okay for me. Dated Weak breakfast.
