This is one of the best boutique hotels we have stayed in. The staff were outstanding. Very helpful with suggestions particularly for restaurants in the area and catching the metro/ferries etc. The room was large and very comfortable with a mini kitchen. We had a room on the 1st floor at the back which had a lovely balcony and was not noisy. Being on the first floor it was easy to walk up and down the stairs. It is well located in the Plaka district and easy walk to Acropolis, Acropolis Museum,.
all reviews » The hotel is charming, beautiful, clean with a staff that is so helpful and welcoming. They provide champagne and chocolates upon arrival. Additionally, they helped us with our boarding passes. They are right in the Plaka district within walking distance to many of the attractions. Loved it. And, I purposely left a pair of sneakers there and when I returned home there was an e mail letting me know that I had left them....and they wanted to know what I wanted them to do with them. Very impressiv. Staff were very helpful and pleasant. Rooms were clean, rather small (but not by other European city-center hotel standards) but elegantly furnished, with thoughtful amenities. The location was excellent, within walking distance of major monuments and the fabulous new Acropolis Museum, numerous street vendors and cafes. The kitchenette was very handy; we would use it more for a longer stay. Lovely welcome and very friendly and helpful staff. Nice rooms with kitchenette which was very useful. Breakfast was 12 Euros and was good but not exceptional. Had a great stay. Location fantastic near Acropolis in Plaka and small hotel meant personal service. AVA Hotel is a very good hotel that is well located in Plaka in Athens, with all major historical sights and venues within easy walking distance. No microwave oven or regular oven---just two stovetop burners---not an issue for us, but might be for travelers dependent upon one of these in a kitchenette. Very noisy a/c fan outside kept coming on and off all day and night so I kept waking up. More international tv channels would be nice. The only negative comment was in relation to getting a taxi to the airport, I asked the reception to call a taxi to take us to the airport which they kindly arranged. While waiting I noticed quite a few taxis go past the hotel, I confirmed the fare was 35 euro and the girl said no 40 euro because we had rung for one. I think reception should have mentioned this before booking and also mentioned that plenty of taxis pass by the building. The breakfast was not included in the hotel price, which was surprising given our other experiences with hotels in Greece. It was also very basic, again a surprise given the overall superior quality of this hotel. We stayed in the standard suite and the shower was very small. I can't imagine a bigger person being able to shower properly. Room service ends at 10pm. The shower was a bit small. Being very picky; the bathroom only had a shower, which was fine for adults but less so for our young son. Overall though, this is a wonderful place to stay. Having to leave . . . Well it could use a rooftop pool and bar. That would have made it impossible to leave. Hotel could do with a rooftop terrace to maximise it's good location. (Minor point really). Would have liked a balcony with view. No pool, no spa. A bit loudy when you open a window, but it concerns Athens in general. There was nothing that I didn't like. I was unable to stay longer :). There was nothing not to like (except the price was pretty high). We didn't take the breakfast. Better was available at any number of pavement cares within a few hundred metres. Bathroom was very small, shower especially. We are short and small so we were OK but anyone taller than us or bigger would have a problem showering in that tiny little shower. Nothing. Nothing. No View at The Acropolis, even location is promoted by such spot. Breakfast was good but quite expensive. Room service options also very expensive (so we didn't order any). Breakfast not included in room rate and quite expensive for what it was. Lobby should be improved. Cost. Nothing!. There's no parking space available. None.
