I know there have been a few poor reviews of this hotel but if you go ask for a street side room, the rooms are spacious, the beds ae firm but fine and the room is clean and functional. It's not luxurious and that's ok for what you pay. This is a grand old hotel and the interior is good, it's not clean lines, fancy, modern but it's a great hotel in a fantastic location so give it a go. If we come again I would stay here again.
all reviews » The location was excellent, as it was a short walk to the train station. There were tram and bus stops nearby as well. Breakfast was very nice. I mentioned that it was our one year anniversary, and we had fresh fruit in our room when we arrived. I'm not sure if it's standard, but it was definitely a nice treat since we checked in at around midnight and were a bit hungry. Only 600 yards from the main station, it is nevertheless in a quieter area. Staff were friendly and helpful and the room was very well appointed and extremely comfortable. The whole place has the ambience of a superior hotel of the post war era. Quiet and modest opulence. Short walk to trains and long distance buses, helpful staff, rooms larger than usual, good choice of hot and cold breakfast. Our room was on the street side, very quiet (but rear rooms overlooking the railway are likely to be noisier). Staff were friendly and obliging when we asked to move because wifi not available in room. Big rooms and great bathrooms. Excellent breakfast. Room was set for one person occupancy. Shower and shaving mirror needed attention. Iron could use an upgrade. Some noise from the outside street . Internet was non existent in the rooms above the 1st floor. Had business to handle so went to an open room downstairs. Only good Internet was in the lobby. no lobby bar, no information from staff's side about lobby bar & other f & b offerings. Hotel is located by the railroad. As my room was on that side, the trains caused some noise in night time. Insufficient supplies of toiletries. Lousy gym. Room was clean but several things broken. Not a 4 star worthy. offered a half broken iron for use. Breakfast was not satisfied. The last time I stayed the booking (made through letsbookhotel.com) did not exist. Luckily there were spare rooms but if it had been conference week I would have been in trouble. This time I spent a weekend with the family, they then left and I had a second booking in a smaller room. It took 15 minutes for them to work this out with furious tapping at the keyboard. Internet didn't work in room. No tea and coffee making facilities. tea corner not available in the room. The gym has very limited choice. The electric power shutdown :(. No staff was available at arriving (9.40 p.m.). Only 1 bath towel and 1 hand towel and only 1 glass for drinksfor 2 people think room 511 is supposed to be for a single person - other reviews on other sites mention this same problem with room 511also unsure of the purpose of the random round table in room without any chairs to sit at - sky channels are very limited and only basic. When entering on arrival there was an unpleasant smell of dogs. However it was OK the following day. Aircon did not work. 27 degrees all night. Had to open all the windows and outside was the trains. So a bit noisy. Wi-fi doesn't work in the room!. room is too dark. Very tired and dated decor. The whole place stinks like cigars from a tiny bar in the basement. The furnishings are spartan at best. Nothing has been updated in ages. Rooms on the backside face the railroad tracks and are noisy. Getting ripped off on price when there is a big Trade Fair going. Hotel is next to a trainstation with passing trains throughout the night. Very noisy. The A/C did not work satisfactory. Room was hot throughout the night. Pillow was way too big, old and nasty. Never stay there in the warm months and always demand a room on the street side away from the tracks. Blood on sheets clearly not new. No hotel Parking as advertised, resulting in me getting a parking ticket as i had to park in a pay and display car park. No on site kitchen meaning no room service. Mattress very bad not even average.
