all reviews » The hotel is just a few minutes walk from Tienanmen Square, in a very colourful area with plenty of restaurants and shops. The room was simple but clean, the towels were changed every day. The hotel has also a very cosy bar/restaurant area, mainly used for breakfast, and one or two computers are available if you need to use the internet. Most of the staff speak English and they are happy to give you advice on the best ways to get to places. I think this is a great place to stay if you are on a. The hostel itself was really nice and their staff were very helpful. We preferred this over the area as it is situated near tourists spots (walking distance to Tiananmen Square, National Museum, Mao Museum, Forbidden City etc.). It is near the Qiamen Station which can take you anywhere around Beijing. Most of all, the place is sorrounded by lots of Chinese restaurants that serves delicious, affordable dishes in big serving. The room for the double deluxe was very small, with only enough room for the bed and a small aisle on one side of the bed, only about 8 feet square. I'd suggest upgrading to the next larger room. It is in a gritty part of town, in what is more of an alley than a street but that lends to it's charm and close in location. The breakfast service is quite slow. On a busy morning it could take more than 40 minutes for a simple breakfast but there's a Starbucks and other facilities just a few minutes walk from the hotel, so you can just go there if you want a quicker service. In the morning it takes a bit to get hot water in the shower. My double room was a bit small, but had a window on the outside which I appreciated (some rooms have windows on the corridors/patios); the shower tube was short (due to a long circuit through the ceiling between the mixer tap and shower head) i.e. better adapted to tall people; the bathroom was also small and showers get the floor and WC wet. All in all those are minor shortcomings with respect to the pros of the hotel. Everything was perfect :). The standard twin room could feel small for two people, but we were able to upgrade to a bigger room with a window for not much more money. Nothing in particular. Nothing as such I can pin point as this is my first stay in Beijing ever in a dorm and I loved the stay. House keeping, may be a china thing but house keeping consisted of emptying your bin, bed remained unmade, but it's a minor issue really. The main downside was the size of the room. It was so small we just had to leave everything in the backpack because there was no room nor closet to put our clothes. The tv in the room only had Chinese channels, so next to sleeping and washing up, there is no reason to stay in the room... The hotel was extremely difficult to find. Make sure you write down the chinese signs of the streetname! Remember: It is the small street on the right when your in the big shopping street at the H&M... I needed more than one hour to find the hotel, a good descreption of the way coming from subway and bus would be nice and helpful. -The internet wifi was quite weak on the third floor. -Only Chinese language channels available on the TV. Since location is in hutong, it is difficult to find and local people do not know english. Best option is to take meishi jie street after exit 'c' from qianmen subway station. Walk for 5-7 mins. You will see shijia hutong board. Take left and on 100 meters you will see hyde hotel. (You can use google maps). Bed was hard. Should be able to take meals to your room after you purchase them. The shower was... Well, let me just say that I haven't really seen such a construction before :) not a big issue, though, as everything was working. Bathroom could do with a small renovation. the smell of food and to turn off the heating at night. I had to request an extra blanket to sleep. Rather old, dirty hotel. Not very comfortable bathroom&toilet. If I need to stay in Beijin again - I would try to find another hotel with better facilities but at the same district. Checking out involves the staff making sure you haven't taken or damaged anything before they will refund the deposit. As the hotel is in a hutong the streets are very narrow and getting a taxi to collect us on departure was very difficult. Hotel staff found us one but they charged for the service. Hard beds – only for people who loves that. WiFi – internet only for China citizens, for registration on web you must put your id number which not work with foreigners. shower did not have a separate cubicle, meaning when you showered the whole bathroom got wet. The beds and pillows are too hard. The staff speaks poor English. No dissapointments. Wifi didnt work in rooms as advertised. Difficult part is the language barrier, Hardly people speak english or understand english. And pls visit great wall of china by yourself by using 877 bus facility but before 12 pm every day. The internet connection cut out a lot. The only space for socialising with other guests was cramped and subject to a constant barrage of loud pop music. One will flood the bathroom everytime he takes a shower, since they haven't got a curtain to separate it. Some of staff not know English In Some rooms placed tie-beams under ceiling, it's created bad internal view at room. Person who was working at the reception in the morning didn`t understand English even with a google translate, so I have just to do a check out and decide what to do on my own. No curtain round shower - wet floor very slippery and dangerous. Although the location of the hotel, being very close to the 'Front Gate' Avenue, is excellent, the hotel itself is in a narrrow side street that no taxi would enter. As well as having to drag our luggages to the main Street, we also had difficulties hailing a taxi on the main Street as the hotel would not call a taxi for us. Nothing - this is a great place to stay in Beijing. You must realise that the chinese love hard, hard beds. Takes a couple of days to get used to. Our double bed room and bathroom was very small. They need to clean the room daily. Their lighting condition is quite poor during dark hours, which is a potential danger for accident. They need to provide facial tissue in their rooms. All these are common in the USA. Wifi didn't work despite being advertised as free through hotel. Neither did the cable Ethernet.
