Hey Beijing is Beijing. It's a super busy place; it's polluted (air) beyond belief. In itself, must be seen to believe. Kapok was on the door step of the forbidden city and tien'amen and very convenient for the purpose; to visit these. There is a food market on a part of the Main Street that is, if anything, worth seeing. Good luck if you want to eat the food! So on that point, the kapok is good at Peking Duck. Duh... Peking! Other food... So so. The Jade Garden next door (corner) has weird loo.
all reviews » This hotel is in a great location for tourist very close for Forbidden City and shopping as well. The design is great and the rooms have wood floors, always a plus in China where carpet cleaning is not a top priority. A consideration for those traveling with a partner or sharing a room on business, the bathrooms are glass walled with a curtain to pull shut when using the space, so consider this when booking this hotel depending on who else may be in the room. The bathroom was nicely designed a. It has an excellent location to key tourist scenic spots and close to underground for accessible to other areas within the city. Convenient store is just a few shops away with plenty local food restaurants nearby by. Hotel is clean with basic comfort for tourists. The room is spacious too. Hotel staff are friendly and one of them recommended us to hire a car for the route to the Great Wall and other 2 scenic sites which saved us the hassle of finding public transports to move around and we cove. The location is very central and therefore handy to get anywhere from the hotel. The staff's english is quite basic but with some effort you can get your questions answered. However, When we first arrived, there were some hairs on the bathroom floor and shower. I wasn't pleased with this and so the next day we called to ask that the housekeeping staff would pay special attention to cleaning the bathroom floor. And they did which was great. Excellent location - Forbidden City side gate - only 15 min walk, if you turn left, WanFu Road - 5 min, if you turn right. Famous evening food market along the street - on the right hand side. Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine with Tong Ren Tang Pharmacy - 3 min walk to the right. Very attentive staff, beautiful rooms, especially with garden balconies. Modern, cosy and bright. Breakfast menu - really good and various.. We've stayed at courtyard room one night, and it was my best experience in Beijing. It has a comfy mattress, very clean toilet and Internet access. Our room also has apple tv. It also has multiple rooftop decks with views of the Drum Tower and Bell Tower. The layout is pleasing to the eye, and the people in the Orchid hotel are friendly and willing to help. Great place to stay had an amazing time here!. - at first, all the service people who accompagnied me during all my stays in this hotel. - at second, the real diversity of the rooms, I tried a lot of of them - at third, the daily and nighty indoor ambiance through the corridors and the small gardens in the middle of the lobby - the small office-boxes at the lobby for working or reading in a collective space. The hotel was an excellent hotel. Modern with wonderful rooms. The reception staff were very helpful with all enquires and arrangements. Other staff were helpful and friendly. About position, it is really close to the Forbidden City and to the Jingshang Park (where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful views on the city). However, note that it takes 15 minutes walking to reach the Tian'anmen East subway station. Staff were friendly and helpful, room was very nice. About twice what I usually pay when in Beijing at comparable hotels. The beds are quite firm, not the worst I have experienced in China, but not softest either. I would have liked them to be a little softer. Only 2 small bottles of water provided foc everyday. The hotel is more of 3 star but charged at 4 star hotel price. Overall, its excellent location made up the price difference. Wi-fi quite poor. - Unfortunately, there is no training room in this hotel for relaxing after work. (Fortunately there is a very beautiful spa "Dragon Fly" close to the hotel. The hotel could be have an agreement with this Spa for more interesting prices). - The outdoor landscaped terrasses of some rooms are not sufficiently cleaned : the concreat structures and walls could be more often renoved or repainted so as to offer the clients a more interesting indoor view and a really more peacefull space. A short walk from the subway(10-15mins), was fine for us but some may find it too far. Would have been nice if there had been a bar or other area where we could have met other travellers and exchanged knowledge. Reception stuff says they can't call for a taxi, only private drivers for double price. However they help to explain nearby taxi drivers where to go. the facade (ugly) Limited english speaking Tv Channels. Almost nothing. Breakfast buffet was overpriced. Bathrooms are all glass with no doors, only a curtain for privacy. No 24 hour room service. definitely not soundproof. if you are sensitive to noise, you cant sleep from 8 onwards due to cleaning ladies working in rooms around you. The beds are very hard, however, the staff gave us some extra doona's to soften it up. Bathroom in our room uses a curtain in replace of a solid door. The room had dust bunnies under the sitting chairs. Breakfast was expensive (approx. $20CAD) but you aren't required to purchase. Bathroom is large with great shower stall, but there is no door on the bathroom, and the walls are all glass so the rooms would not be suitable to share with a travelling companion with whom you are not quite intimate. I hope they finish soon the renovation of the building near by the hotel. The breakfast wasn't as good as I had hoped. CNN was only English speaking TV station. Mosquito in my room one night - multiple bites. Disorganised breakfast. As others have mentioned, the fact that the bathroom is separate from the remaining room by transparent glass and a curtain (curtain is on the room side) can be an issue depending on who you are travelling with. Also, despite being very centrally located, the nearest subway station is about 15min on foot away. The bathroom doesn't have a door... but still a wonderful bathroom!. - not all the staff speaks englisch - very hard to get a taxi from there - room service only until midnight!? - breakfast (roomservice) is very tiny. air con goes off when you leave the room and you must remember to turn it on again when you return. staff too quick to throw you out of breakfast at precisely 10 am. A bit far from line 1 but not si much. breakfast was a bit pricey. Very slow internet Computer in the room is set for Chinese guests only. Wi-Fi from room is very weak. You have to go to lobby to connect internet. one snafu: woke up in middle of night to find a man standing inside the room saying we had to check out. turned out to be a staff member who had made a mistake (which I found out when going down to to desk); wi-fi not always strong. A bit pricy. brekfast not included in price.
