The staff - they were all very pleasant and helpful. Richard at the front desk went out of his way to make our 6-day visit as enjoyable as possible. The location - right by the beach, amidst an eclectic mix of shops & restaurants & coffee for eveyone withTim Hortons on one side, Starbucks on the other, bus stop in front of the hotel. The room - wonderful view of the street and beach, very clean, well appointed with all sorts of goodies in the bathroom, ironing board, umbrella, microw.
all reviews » Great location with easy walk to the stunning Stanley Park, English bay beach is just a few minutes walk and you can join in with all the Canadians out walking, jogging, riding bike (plenty available to rent). Granville island markets are accessible too from a close by ferry for $3.50 and buses no 5 and 6 to downtown stop outside the door. For $2.75 we caught the no 6 bus to the sky train that took us out to the airport in 45 mins. Saved heaps in taxi fairs and was easy. Great affordable place . The location of this hotel was fantastic...literally a 3 minute walk to the beach yet surrounded by great cafes and restaurants. Staff were welcoming and accommodating as we requested a late check-out but they were fully booked. Even so they allowed us to remain in our room an hour after normal check-out time. The room was large and tidy. Bathroom was slightly dated but everything worked and we were given an ample supply of towels and toiletries. Location was close to seawall, bike hire, good restaurants including those attached to BW Sands, bus routes outside door, close to Stanley park and 15 minute stroll to False Creek ferry to Granville Island, $10 taxi to seabus for trip to north Vancouver and convenient bus link 236 to Grouse Mountain to name just a few. Great help to have a laundry available on 1st floor too! Beds were very comfortable and had usb ports in clock. Lovely view of the ocean from 4th floor. Very comfortable beds. All conveniences we needed: coffee pot, small fridge, plus all the little items, it was clean, very friendly staff, nice niche in the cafe-pub downstairs to meet up with & visit family. Everything within walking distance, gourmet coffee houses, shopping, Stanley Park was BEAUTIFUL! Wish we had more time to look around more. All in all a wonderful stay. 1rst night several of us girls celebrated birthdays. Lots of fun in room then went on to dinner @ Bayside room. More fun lovely views (room & Bayside) Next night husband joined me & we had a drink next door then the Bayside room then down the street to "Pho" restaurant. So many to choose from. Was very good food. Bed was very comfy. Staff very attentive & helpful. Will be booking again this summer. The location at English Beach was ideal for us as we were on holiday. Plenty of good restaurants in the area. Staff were very helpful and friendly and made good touring recommendations. Room was very clean and comfortable. Overall a very comfortable and convenient hotel and we have already booked a return visit later in our holiday. Would recommend to family and friends. Really enjoyed our stay. There were many good restaurants nearby. It is a 20 minute walk to downtown, but only 7 minutes by the bus which stops right outside the door of the hotel. A good room with a partial view of English Bay; well-located at Davie & Denman in the West End, with quick access to the beach, seawall, Stanley Park, restaurants/bars/cafés (good espresso). The attached restaurant/bar was pleasant and quiet with decent pub food. Parking was convenient at the hotel. Staff were very pleasant. This is a no fuss, dog friendly hotel, that suits our needs perfectly. We have stayed there before. This is in the heart of Vancouver's West End, Stanley Park and English Bay are right on the door step, so it is a very busy, exciting location. Street noise is to be expected, but we have no problem sleeping. Good value for money. The room was very comfortable and the location was excellent.There was a bus stop outside and buses went to Downtown frequently. It was also adjacent to the waterfront and was really nice to stroll along to Stanley Park especially in the evening when we sat on the beach to watch the sunset. Stayed here before. Hotel staff all genuinely friendly and very helpful. Cute friendly pub and also upper floor lounge overlooking English Bay. Free garage parking ( unheard of!). Steps to Stanley Park and many area restaurants. Great access to all of Vancouver from relative quiet WestEnd. loved the older style, welcome feeling, warmth my room was right on Davie but loved it - fun people noises then quiet in night! lovely area, my favorite in Van. Stayed in different Best Western before, but this is now my only destination hotel in Vancouver. The hotel staff were exceptionally nice. The rooms were very clean and comfortable.Close to the water and lots of restaurants, cafes etc close by. We would definitely stay there again which, I suppose, sums up the review. The location of the hotel is excellent, with cafes, restaurants and beautiful English Bay only a few steps from the front door, and Stanley Park not much further away. The view out our window was very good and up on the 4th floor one is high enough to get away from most of the noise. The area, because it is popular, can be noisy, esp on weekends, but noisier cities exist. The decor was very tired and could do with a major refurb!. I have no complaints. For business or family travel, The Sands is a keeper!. really did not like your coffee maker! Granted, I had to learn but my goodness that is a difficult one . By the time I got a tiny bit of coffee out of it, I was running across to Tim Horton's! Also my fault, forgot my points card. The hotel is rather tired, with noisy air-conditioning units, well-worn towels and a general atmosphere of budget permeating the whole establishment. Our sheets were not changed during the four days of our stay, and a wildly vibrating hair-dryer had to be replaced. That said, the hotel was clean and the staff helpful. Beds too soft for our taste and a bit dated but would stay there again even though the WiFi wasn't easily accessible in our room, #427. TV programming is limited and free in room coffe not good at all. My son saw someone walking outside our window the first night. Not likely that someone should have been out there but I didn't feel comfortable leaving my window open to enjoy the ocean breeze. 250 € deposit as a garantee for non- smoking is a bit over the top i think. Hotel tired and room smelt very musty and were small - limited room if you have children. It had a budget feel too, but at the price and cleanliness of the facilities I would stay again. They do not advertise that they have fridges or microwaves which almost caused me to cancel the booking. Long way to go!. Nothing I can think of. The only thing I can honestly say is that there was not a nice quiet lounge to go to on Saturday night. Didn't want all the noise and the fight on TV was icky. But that is my taste. No pool....but ok. The rooms are not the best soundproofed. Our room was right by the elevator, the stairwell, the soda machine, and the ice machine. A little noisier than we liked. We didn't like that your TV. cable package has been changed (downsized and poor selection). We have been staying at your hotel for many years now and have always been happy with your TV package until now :(. Lots of noise from the street. We were not informed that a band would be playing in the bar until 2am!!!! Made sleep VERY limited and as we are grandparents who were travelling with two small children, this was an issue. We were told we could have requested a room change... wonder how that would have worked at midnight with a 6yr old and a 4 yr old?. No tv for period of stay. Knew there was an upgrade happening but didn't find out until departure that ordinary tv was still available. Hate coffee in paper cups and wooden stir sticks but seems to be the Canadian way. Not even a teaspoon. Had to save plastic cutlery from takeaway meals. The weather !!!!. Stayed there twice. First time I had a beautiful view of the bay but on my second stay a view of the car park. Would have been great to have an ocean view as a returning guest. Room was warm and air didn't work (more like a vent fan). Very limited sports channels for tennis and was unable to watch a great final at Indian Wells. It is a little pricey for what you get.
