Our experience at Port-Royal was fantastic! We were welcomed by reception staff, very nice (yes in English), our room was very large, separate bedroom, large kitchen area, full kitchen & large table & chairs...would be perfect for a family, as there is a full sofa in living area.( Room 202) There is an elevator for those who can't handle stairs, nice size hotel, not too big, so it is very charming. Alex, the manager of the dining area, runs a delightful place to eat! The quality of food.
all reviews » Port Royal is a fantastic hotel located in the heart of basse-ville (lower town). Our room 105 had original stones and wood beams dating from 1700´s. BEd is very comfortable, room decór is sooting and chic (shantung curtains, ceiling painted in grey-brown). Bedroom has a built in kithchenette very convenient. Hotel bar is really cool too. I would totally recommend future guests to head to local Quebec boulangerie named Paillard centrally located in Rue St Jean in Haute-ville (5min walt). Their . We arrived in the suite and were greeted by soothing music and a very comfortable temperature. The hotel is i located well in the lower "vieille ville" near the St Laurent. Two wonderfully restaurants were part of the hotel, but the surrounding area had so much to offer, we only used them to end our days with a libation. All were very friendly!. Location location location! Loved the brick on the walls, stereo with music playing in the livingroom, window that opened to the square below, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, stove, fridge. Glad there were two TVs with a good selection of English programs. The staff were welcoming on arrival. It was in a good location for being in the Old Town area and it was easy to get around. Our only negative point would be that the room was, by nature, very dark - small window and dark décor. No shelves, no chest-of-drawers to take stuff out of suitcases. The closet was pretty big, but only for hanging clothes, and not enough hangers. The view on the gas station. We were on the floor above the restaurant so the 6.00 am music was a bit loud. The pull out couch was missing pins and so the first night of sleep two of us were not comfortable because of the uneven mattress. The staff did fix it the next day when we informed them about it. The thermostat thing was a bit confusing. I turned the heat on by accident but that was just me being stupid. :Parking was tight and we had to pay for a guest who spent an evening visiting us at the hotel. - beds were not very comfortable. No safety deposit box in the room for ipad/ laptop. No place to sit and enjoy the kitchen facilities. Didn't see an ice machine. Rooms can be noises as hard wood floors. Recommend requesting a top floor. Don't walk up the hills to Old Quebec, take the Fanicular, for $2.50. $15 a day car parking. The fact that our room was next to the housekeeping room, and next to the Petro Station. Since it's a old building, rooms are not sound proof. Ask for a room on the 3rd floor (top floor) and view of the parking (also view of old Quebec). restaurant. food was not worth the money they charged. needs more variety. What happened to good old fashion Quebecois food?. The beds were very soft, very comfortable just not for me. The Internet service was bad in our room. The first day the room smell as food. The free drink at the hotel bar contained virtually no alcohol; this seemed like a cheap trick to get us to order another drink. Wish we could have gotten a room "up above" in Old Quebec. Nothing. No staff on premesis. Our room was never turned No clean towels for second day stay. No remote for tv. room faced a gas station, so there was some noise. Not excessive but still not what you really want when paying good money. in our first floor room, we heard the music playing constantly, apparently from the restaurant on the ground level. Why can't they turn off the music on off hours?. Slow service in restaurant. Quite noisy , both from above us and the room next door. It's the downside of wooden floors. Bathroom to small! There was no place to put your things!. No view from rooms at back of hotel. Sofa bed not too comfy!. Nothing to complain about. It was great. Bathrrom had hair on the heater and a broken shower curtain hook on the floor. Also some crumbs on the counter from the prior renters. Had to get up at 2AM to catch flight. Asked for quite room and was put over the restaurant which had a birthday party that was very noisy.
